The 6-member a cappella group In-gong-wi-seong, who debuted in 1993, is reuniting with viewers after a long time.
Starting as a small group in a mixed choir club at Seoul National University, In-gong-wi-seong became a leading group that brought the then-unfamiliar genre of a cappella to the mainstream music scene. Originally an amateur college group, they officially debuted with an album and gained huge attention for the charm of unaccompanied music through their hit song “Can I Call It Love”.
Their unique background as an “a cappella group from Seoul National University,” combined with their clear, pure chords and solid harmony, brought a fresh shock to the music industry at the time. In the early 1990s, when electronic and dance music dominated, In-gong-wi-seong is credited with helping popularize a cappella by showcasing a musical world created solely by human voices.
Their first album was a huge hit, selling approximately 400,000 copies. They continued their activities, releasing up to a fourth full-length album and several singles. However, after graduation, the group naturally stopped activities due to realistic reasons such as employment, military service, and studying abroad.
In the upcoming broadcast, the members of In-gong-wi-seong, now in their 33rd year since debut, gather once again to share memories and music stories from that era. Now in their middle age, the members still maintain their unchanging friendship and musical bond, and they plan to deliver the emotion of a cappella by syncing their harmonies once more.
The show will also honestly unfold the members’ return to the Seoul National University campus, the story of how they first started a cappella, behind-the-scenes stories of their debut, episodes from their active days, and how they never let go of music in their respective lives. It airs on the 17th at 11 PM.
