Comedian Yang Sang-guk is finding himself in the middle of another heated debate, this time over his “attitude.” It seems like he has really gotten on people’s bad side, as every word he says is being scrutinized.
Recently praised for hitting a “second peak” in his career across various variety shows, Yang Sang-guk came under fire for his views on dating after appearing on the YouTube show “Pinggyego.” He stated a firm stance, saying, “I won’t do it unless I’m going to do it for a lifetime.” Even after advice from Yoo Jae-suk, he pushed back with comments like “That’s not it” and “If you say it one more time, I’ll scold you,” which reportedly chilled the atmosphere. Some viewers also pointed out that calling him “Yoo Jae-suk 씨” was rude.
Amidst the controversy, Yang Sang-guk apologized via SNS, stating, “I am sorry for causing discomfort,” but the debate continues as similar moments have been spotted in other broadcasts.
In the May 4th episode of TV Chosun’s “Lovers of Joseon,” Yang Sang-guk visited a marriage information company in hopes of getting married. However, his blunt way of speaking once again became a topic of discussion during the consultation.
During a face-reading session, he was told he is handsome but stubborn. Yang Sang-guk shot back, “Men should be stubborn.” When advised that he needs to loosen up his stubbornness, he didn’t back down, asking, “Don’t elders have stubbornness too?” Some viewers reacted negatively, saying, “It’s uncomfortable to see him talking back to an elder” and “He seems to lack manners.”
On the other hand, some viewers are defending him, arguing that “it’s just a variety show setting” and “an exaggerated reaction to build his character.”
Later, after receiving a “Grade 6” rating in the matching results, Yang Sang-guk claimed that “personality is important,” yet sparked laughter by revealing he prefers “Seoul women in the Cheongdam-dong style,” showing a contradictory side. While he mentioned he was “disappointed in himself” regarding the result, his refusal to fully accept the grade led to further interpretations.
From his dating views to the marriage agency consultation, Yang Sang-guk’s “blunt speaking style” and “strong stubbornness” could certainly be part of his character, but they are becoming a double-edged sword that can make viewers uncomfortable.
