“Yoo Jae Suk’s own street view shots, struggling while carrying 9kg of equipment and sweating buckets.”

Entertainer Yoo Jae Suk joined the effort to create street views of Gyeongbokgung and Naksan Park.

In the 330th episode of MBC’s variety show ‘Hangout with Yoo’ aired on May 23, Yoo Jae Suk, Haha, Heo Kyung Hwan, and Joo Woo Jae took on missions related to the achievements of King Sejong the Great to celebrate the 629th anniversary of his birth.

On this day, Yoo Jae Suk and Heo Kyung Hwan challenged themselves to record the streets of Seoul, following the spirit of King Sejong the Great, who strove for precise map production. They personally collected street view information for Company N. Carrying equipment weighing about 9kg, they had to walk through paths inaccessible to vehicles and take a photo every 10 meters. The locations they had to shoot were Jibokjae at Gyeongbokgung and the cozy alleys of Jangsu Village located right next to the fortress walls of Naksan Park.

Stopping to take photos every 10 to 15 steps was harder than expected. After just a few shots, Yoo Jae Suk’s patience ran thin, as he lamented, “I’m already sick of this. My face is so hot. It’s so boring, tiring, and lonely. I used to just look at street views, but they really go through a lot of trouble. The equipment is quite heavy, and the direct sunlight is getting hotter.”

To film the alleys of Jangsu Village, he had to hike up Naksan Park while sweating profusely. Worried that the antenna might get caught in the trees, Yoo Jae Suk regretted not buying some water. He kept groaning as the steep paths made filming difficult. Still, seeing the vivid images of the alleys piling up, he looked forward to it, saying, “It’ll be worth seeing later.”

Following King Sejong’s achievement of creating the rain gauge, Haha and Joo Woo Jae headed to the Korea Meteorological Administration to transform into one-day forecasters. After studying seriously, the two attended a national meeting and gave presentations on showers and temperature, respectively. Joo Woo Jae, an engineering student, especially shone. Even when faced with unexpected questions, he didn’t panic and smoothly answered using what he had learned from the forecasting officer who helped him. The national meeting concluded without a hitch.

Haha and Joo Woo Jae then moved to Paju for a rare experience of launching a balloon containing radiosonde equipment for high-altitude weather observation. The information observed through the balloon they launched will be used for weather forecasts worldwide. The two finished their meaningful task by saying “Goodbye” to the balloon.
