In the first episode of tvN’s ‘Youth Over Flowers: Limited Edition’ aired on the 3rd, Jung Yu Mi, Park Seo Jun, and Choi Woo Shik were kidnapped during a real-time live broadcast, starting a ‘limited’ trip with no luggage, money, or phones.
The ‘Youth Over Flowers’ series is famous for its historic kidnapping operations. In the ‘Peru’ edition, the cast was kidnapped immediately upon meeting. In the ‘Laos’ edition, they were tricked into a promotional shoot. In the ‘Iceland’ edition, Kang Ha Neul was kidnapped right after the Blue Dragon Film Awards, still wearing his tuxedo, which became a huge talking point.
In the ‘Africa’ edition, the final series featuring ‘Reply 1988’ stars Ahn Jae Hong, Ryu Jun Yeol, Go Kyung Pyo, and Park Bo Gum, the cast was kidnapped during their ‘Reply 1988’ reward vacation, shocking viewers.
Everyone was curious about what kind of innovative ‘kidnapping’ would happen in ‘Youth Over Flowers: Limited Edition,’ and the truth was revealed in the first episode.
The production team successfully kidnapped Jung Yu Mi, Park Seo Jun, and Choi Woo Shik through a ‘kidnapping during a live broadcast’ operation. The three had gathered for a pre-meeting and were naturally lured into participating in ‘Writer Kim Dae Joo’s 20th Anniversary Live’ through the staff’s clever tricks.
The moment they joined, the live stream title changed from ‘Staff: Writer Kim Dae Joo Edition’ to ‘Youth Over Flowers: Limited Edition (which only Yu Mi, Seo Jun, and Woo Shik don’t know).’
Even the live viewers joined in to deceive the trio. Eventually, the hidden ‘Youth Over Flowers: Limited Edition’ banner was revealed, completing the surprise kidnapping.
Park Seo Jun couldn’t hide his shock, saying, “At that moment, I really felt like I’d been hit in the back of the head,” while Choi Woo Shik expressed his sense of betrayal, wondering, “Honestly, seeing the banner pulled away like that, I wonder how much of this was planned from the start.”
Jung Yu Mi was also stunned, asking, “Then is this (20th anniversary) fake too?” to which the production team added to the shock by replying, “It’s the 22nd anniversary.”
True to the name ‘Limited Edition,’ the three began a journey with strict limitations. Specifically, a daily allowance limit of 100,000 won per person and restrictions on phone use added to their struggles.
As they worried about extra clothes and essentials due to the sudden start, Park Seo Jun surprised everyone by confessing that he had actually packed daily necessities.
During the explanation of the rules—where only pre-packed luggage or backpacks were allowed—it was revealed that Park Seo Jun had brought essentials. Choi Woo Shik suspected him, saying, “Hyung, you knew, didn’t you?” and Jung Yu Mi expressed her betrayal, angrily asking, “You knew!” Even PD Na Young Seok stuttered, asking, “Did you expect something?” adding to the suspicion.
Facing the intense suspicion, Park Seo Jun calmed the controversy by explaining, “I guess this is a matter of experience now. If I had met the production team for the first time, I would have come without thinking. Usually, they tell you roughly where you’re going, but since they didn’t say anything at all, I thought of it like a first-aid kit—that even if it’s taken away, it’s better to just bring it.”
Jung Yu Mi, Park Seo Jun, and Choi Woo Shik chose Daegu as their first destination. For their first dinner, they picked a snack bar. Proving it was a ‘limited’ trip, the three carefully saved every last drop of their remaining soju.
