Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung shared the touching story of her father’s battle with Retinitis Pigmentosa and expressed her deep gratitude toward her fellow members.
Sooyoung appeared on tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’ on the 6th alongside Hyoyeon and Yuri. The three have recently been showcasing various content as the new Girls’ Generation unit ‘Hyo-Ri-Soo’.
During the show, Sooyoung mentioned, “My father serves as the chairman of the Headquarters for the Elimination of Blindness,” adding, “Whenever there were suggestions for volunteering or sponsorship, I used to go and volunteer by myself.”
She recalled, “Then one day, Yuri said to me, ‘Sooyoung, your dad is doing such wonderful work, why didn’t you tell me? You should let me know quickly when there’s something like that.'”

Sooyoung expressed her gratitude, saying, “Since then, the members have been donating steadily. It feels like they are sharing the burden of my family’s struggles with me.”
She also spoke about her father’s health, explaining, “My father has been fighting Retinitis Pigmentosa for about 15 years, and he has now almost completely lost his sight. He recently started new research.”
She added, “It is a huge comfort to have people who understand and support me without even having to say, ‘Let’s help if we can.'”
Yuri also reflected on their bond, stating, “At some point, I started thinking that it’s only natural to take care of each other’s family matters and personal lives, not just work. I have also received that kind of help from the members.”
She continued, “When I felt that support growing like a snowball and realizing how much they support me, I felt that no matter what happens, it won’t be too hard.”
The way the members share even the personal family history of Sooyoung once again confirms the depth of their 18-year friendship.
