“As always, this is an album prepared with NMIXX’s own colors,” said Bae.
NMIXX is set to release their 5th mini album, ‘Heavy Serenade’, on major music sites on May 11 at 6 PM. Ahead of their comeback, the group introduced the new record through a Q&A session.
The new album features a total of six tracks, led by the title song ‘Heavy Serenade’. It also includes ‘Crescendo’ and ‘Idigitalbit’, which Lily participated in writing, ‘Different Girl’ and ‘Superior’, where Bae is listed in the lyric credits, and ‘Loud’, a song written solely by Lily.
Bae shared, “Since it’s an album expressing love, we included songs where you can feel a wide range of emotions. The members and many others provided a lot of help, and I’m so happy to have been a part of this album.”
This marks their comeback after seven months. Kyujin emphasized, “We received such overwhelming love for our first full-length album that I was fluttering with excitement throughout the preparation for this comeback. I worked really hard to show a more grown-up side of ourselves.”
The title alone is NMIXX through and through. The title track is a song that conveys a deep, confident love. Lily introduced it, saying, “The tracklist represents the process of love. In particular, the title track compares a love so deep it’s almost heavy to a serenade.”
“Usually, ‘heavy’ can be perceived as a negative emotion, but I wanted to express that the heavier the love, the more important and uncontrollable it is. When I first heard the title track, I felt the progression was like a flower blooming,” Lily added.
Singer-songwriter Hanroro wrote the lyrics, and the members added depth to the words with their lyrical vocals. Haewon shared, “I’ve always liked Hanroro’s work, so I was thrilled to hear they participated in our song.”
Sullyoon explained, “I was surprised by how beautiful the lyrics were when I first received the lyric sheet. The lines ‘My heart will bloom again even if spring passes and winter comes, my heart will bloom again even if I leave Earth’ in the pre-chorus of verses 1 and 2 really stayed with me.”
This time, they are showcasing ‘MIXX POP’ that elaborately blends electronic music elements like Trance, Acid, and Drum and Bass into pop. This further strengthens the team’s musical identity and demonstrates their wide musical spectrum.
Bae confessed, “It’s a song where you can feel various seasons. It feels like a cool summer and also like a warm winter. I think this song perfectly captures the weight of emotions that NMIXX feels right now.”
This is the first album released after achieving record-breaking results with their first full album, ‘Blue Valentine’. The members participated throughout the album to more directly express the emotions NMIXX is currently experiencing.
Sullyoon stated, “We’ve prepared songs with various vibes again. While it’s a new feeling, we worked hard so that you can listen and feel it naturally. I think our songs become more addictive the more you listen to them, and many of them show their true value when you see the performance in person.”
NMIXX recently made headlines by showcasing solid live performances at massive South American music festivals, including the Sao Paulo Carnival in Brazil and the Viña del Mar Festival in Chile.
Kyujin recalled, “Those two stages felt like a dream. Especially at the Viña del Mar Festival, we went on stage around 2 or 3 AM, and I felt a huge thrill seeing so many spectators waiting and chanting our name until so late.”
“Receiving that energy, I didn’t feel tired at all while performing a setlist of over 15 songs; instead, I felt energized. Through the experience of becoming one through music despite different languages, I think our performances have become even bolder,” Kyujin said.
NMIXX will embark on an Asia tour next month. Lily vowed, “One of the things I wanted most since debuting was a world tour. I’m so, so happy to achieve this dream. I will make an exciting and regret-free performance in the upcoming Asia tour.”
Finally, they shared their goals for this comeback. Kyujin hoped, “I want to prove that NMIXX’s growth has no limits. Also, I really want to give the gift of 1st place on music shows and charts to NSWER (fandom name).”
