Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds is grabbing attention by reminiscing about his appearance on ‘King of Mask Singer’ to celebrate its 8th anniversary.
On the 13th, Ryan Reynolds shared on his social media, “If you’ve never experienced a mental breakdown while singing ‘Annie’ on stage, consider yourself truly lucky. Happy 8th anniversary to ‘King of Mask Singer’!”
The shared video features his appearance on the MBC variety show ‘King of Mask Singer’ from May 13, 2018. While visiting Korea for movie promotions, he appeared as the ‘Unicorn’ and sang ‘Tomorrow’ from the musical ‘Annie’, leaving the audience shocked when his identity was revealed.
The unexpected appearance of the global star sparked reactions like “Why are you coming out from there, hyung?” making it a legendary moment. During his interview, Ryan Reynolds joked, “This is the first time in my life I’ve sung in front of people. I thought I’d do better with a mask, but I’m probably in the top 5 worst singers in the world,” adding that he would take the mask with him, which left everyone laughing.
Ryan Reynolds also looked back on the memory during his visits to Korea in 2019 and 2024 to promote ‘6 Underground’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, mentioning, “It’s a shame I couldn’t reappear on ‘King of Mask Singer’.”

Meanwhile, ‘King of Mask Singer’ came to an end last January. Since its premiere in April 2015, it has been an iconic MBC music variety show for 10 years. As a mystery music show where contestants hide their age, gender, and profession to compete solely with their voices, it has been consistently loved for its concept of a “competition without prejudice.”
The show is expected to return as a seasonal series in the second half of this year.
