Jeon Han-gil, a YouTuber and former Korean history lecturer with right-wing leanings, has raised concerns about fairness after his scenes were cut from the Netflix drama ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines,’ mentioning IU in the process.
During a YouTube live stream on the 14th, Jeon revealed that his special appearance scenes were completely edited out and claimed this was due to his political views.
He explained that he was contacted by the director, who told him that the work “could be misunderstood due to political colors.” He continued by stating that he has faced restrictions in his broadcasting activities since revealing his right-wing leanings.
Jeon specifically mentioned lead actress IU, questioning, “Is it okay for IU to be in a drama because she is left-wing, but Jeon Han-gil is edited out because he is right-wing?” He emphasized that it is unfair for those supported by a specific political camp to be allowed while he is excluded.
In response, Netflix previously denied the rumors of political editing, stating that the cuts were “the result of routine editing and reshooting to improve the quality of the work.”
During the broadcast, Jeon shared instances where his appearances were canceled after expressing his political beliefs, expressing disappointment over the “political framing” within the broadcasting industry.
Meanwhile, singer and actress IU previously made headlines for making “pre-payments” at cafes near rallies calling for the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
