Rapper DinDin got emotional while recalling a bittersweet love story with his ex-girlfriend.
On the 15th, a video titled “DinDin Cries Talking About His Canadian Ex” was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘DinDin is DinDin’.
DinDin traveled to Canada with his younger sister, a trip fans had been eagerly waiting for. As soon as he tasted food at a restaurant he used to frequent, memories of Canada flooded back, leaving him teary-eyed as he remarked, “It tastes exactly the same.”
DinDin shared that he was very happy during his time in Canada, stating, “Back then, I had no plans to return to Korea.” His sister added, “Dad kept telling him to go to college, so I thought he would. But then he suddenly said he’d join the army.” DinDin then mentioned his ex-girlfriend, Katarina, who is half-German, saying, “Since Katarina went back to Germany, I wanted to go to university there too. I even looked into colleges because I wanted to visit her during the three-week spring break.”
However, on the day he was set to leave for Germany, all flights were canceled due to a volcanic eruption in Iceland. DinDin recalled, “I cried the whole way on the airport bus. People were actually avoiding me.” He added, “Then my dad told me not to wait and just come back to Korea. In a moment of impulsiveness, I came back immediately. Katarina was very disappointed at the time.” Eventually, the two grew apart and broke up.
After their meal, the two visited a beach they often went to. When the production team asked if he had visited this spot with Katarina, DinDin confirmed, “I did,” once again reminiscing about her. He revealed, “Katarina contacted me later. She said that after becoming an adult and dating a few other men, she realized there was no one like me.” He became emotional and shed tears, admitting, “She was my first love. Katarina was the first person I truly and seriously loved.”
Despite the nostalgia, DinDin firmly answered “No” when asked if he would get back together with her if she asked. He explained, “Katarina and I still keep in touch. Since her grandmother lives in Korea, she visits once every one or two years. When she does, she has a meal with us, and if she can’t meet me, she meets my sister or greets my mother.” His sister added that Katarina feels “like a cousin.”
His sister then exposed a past comment DinDin made. She revealed, “When he had that soccer slip-up, he was struggling a lot. Then he messaged me saying he was okay now, saying, ‘Where could I possibly not be able to live? My sister is in Italy, so I can just go to Milan and open a restaurant. And then I can just marry Katarina.’ Seeing that, I wondered, ‘Would Katarina actually marry him?'” This brought laughter to the set. DinDin reacted, “Did I really say that? I had a girlfriend at the time. I must have been crazy,” before adding, “This is that piercing, heartbreaking longing. I’m longing for something I can never go back to.”
