tripleS’ Kim Yoo Yeon has opened up about her frustration concerning persistent smoking rumors.
On the YouTube channel ‘Ipman Yeolmyun,’ a video titled ‘I’ve Never Seen a Girl Group Lie This Much’ was uploaded, featuring none other than tripleS’ Kim Yoo Yeon and Kim Na Kyung.
When asked if there was anything she desperately wanted to clarify, Kim Yoo Yeon revealed, “When I search my name, people think I smoke because of something that came up in the past. I’ve never smoked a cigarette or even an e-cigarette, but it still pops up in related search terms, which really upsets my parents. While smoking isn’t inherently wrong, it’s just not me. That’s the most unfair rumor I’ve ever faced.” She explained that the rumor stemmed from her 2024 appearance on the YouTube channel ‘Noppakku Tak Jae Hoon.’ When Kim Na Kyung mentioned her love for alcohol, Tak Jae Hoon playfully asked Kim Yoo Yeon if she also enjoyed drinking. Kim Yoo Yeon responded, “I can’t drink.” Tak Jae Hoon then quipped, “How do you relieve stress then? Smoking?” This question visibly surprised Kim Na Kyung. When Kim Yoo Yeon simply laughed without answering, Tak Jae Hoon pressed further, “I got this right, didn’t I? You can’t lie, especially a lady from Ewha.” Following this exchange, some netizens misinterpreted Kim Na Kyung and Kim Yoo Yeon’s flustered reactions as confirmation, leading them to mistakenly believe Kim Yoo Yeon was a smoker.
During the show, host Lee Yong Jin playfully teased her, saying, “I’m going to ask you this. I quit smoking.” Kim Yoo Yeon visibly recoiled again. Even when Lee Yong Jin tried to reassure her, saying, “It’s just an uncle’s joke,” Kim Yoo Yeon earnestly responded, “Isn’t my heart racing right now? This is a clarification that my entire life depends on!”
Lee Yong Jin then got serious, asking, “You’ve never smoked a cigarette even once in your life, right?” Without a moment’s hesitation, Kim Yoo Yeon immediately declared, “No!” The lie detector confirmed her answer as ‘truth.’ Lee Yong Jin acknowledged, “It’s completely understandable that you feel wronged, because those who want to believe the rumors will.” Kim Yoo Yeon sadly added, “There are genuinely so many posts spreading that misinformation.”
For those who might not know, Kim Yoo Yeon is quite the accomplished individual! She was accepted into Ewha Womans University’s Department of Science Education and made her debut with the popular group tripleS in 2023.
