
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticket network on the 17th, “Michael” topped the daily box office yesterday, drawing about 204,000 viewers and capturing a 46.9% market share. The movie has now reached a cumulative total of approximately 468,000 viewers.
Released on the 13th, “Michael” is a biopic that follows the journey of the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson from his childhood to his rise as a global superstar. The film stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, and was directed by Antoine Fuqua.
CJ CGV reported that the occupancy rate for ScreenX reached nearly 35% on the opening day, showing that fans are flocking to special theaters for the best experience.
On the same day, “Super Mario Galaxy” took second place with about 55,000 viewers and a cumulative total of 1.41 million. “The Devil Wears Prada 2” followed in third with about 49,000 viewers.
Along with the movie’s success, the Michael Jackson fever is spreading once again, with the interest from the big screen spilling over into the music charts.
According to the UK Official Charts on the 15th (local time), Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” ranked 3rd and “Beat It” ranked 5th on the Singles Top 100 chart.
Notably, “Beat It” entered the top 5 for the first time in 43 years since 1983. “Human Nature” landed at 6th, and the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” entered at 27th.
On the album charts, the best-of album “THE ESSENTIAL” has held the number one spot for two consecutive weeks, while other major albums like “Thriller,” “BAD,” and “Off The Wall” also climbed to the top of the charts.
