Hwang Hye-young (53) opened up about the difficult emotions she felt during her past brain tumor diagnosis and shared a glimpse of her current life with her beloved pet dog.
On the May 13th episode of TV CHOSUN’s ‘Perfect Life’, Hwang Hye-young, a former member of the group Two Two, appeared to reveal her health management secrets.
Hwang Hye-young started her day with a foot bath and a gua sha massage. Explaining why she loves her old red basin, she said, “It’s so comfortable for foot baths.” While massaging her shoulders, collarbone, and armpits, she added, “I was told that these areas need to be stimulated for circulation.”
She further revealed, “I don’t just do this in the morning; I take care of myself whenever I have a spare moment. I also do scalp care often,” adding, “I’m the type of person who can’t stay still.”
Hwang Hye-young also looked back on the time she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. “Back when I was running my shopping mall, I barely slept and lived in a constant state of tension,” she recalled. “Then, in 2010, I was diagnosed with a meningioma.”
She confessed, “At first, I thought it was an ear problem and kept visiting the hospital, but eventually, a brain tumor was found in my right cerebellum. I wondered why this happened to me. I had done nothing but live diligently while running my mall, so I felt hollow and fell into a depression.”
Hwang Hye-young shared that this happened shortly after she met her current husband. “At the time, I didn’t even want the surgery; I just wanted to let everything go,” she said. “My husband personally scheduled the surgery and handled my hospitalization. I’m still truly grateful to him.”
In a glimpse of her daily life, her affection for her dog, Mongsil, was on full display. While petting Mongsil, she introduced her, saying, “This is my daughter. Since I only have two sons, I adopted her as my daughter.” As she tied the dog’s hair, she expressed her satisfaction, saying, “Since I have twin sons and no daughter, I thought I’d never have the chance to tie someone’s hair, but these days, I do it every day.”
While eating breakfast alone, she also shared the struggles of parenting, noting, “As all mothers probably know, having twin sons meant that getting them ready for school in the morning was like a war.”
Hwang Hye-young debuted in 1994 as a member of the group Two Two and received a lot of love. In 2011, she married Kim Kyung-rok, a former politician, and they have twin sons.
