The late Turtleman (Lim Sung-hoon), leader of the group Turtles, is set to appear as the eighth original singer on ‘Hidden Singer 8’.
According to JTBC on the 13th, the eighth episode of ‘Hidden Singer 8’, airing on the 19th, will be a special dedicated to Turtleman.
With Turtleman selected as the original singer, a large number of imitators with voices strikingly similar to his will appear for a fierce competition.
The production team had previously teased the Turtleman special in a video released last month. The clip caught fans’ attention by hinting at the arrival of new original singers and showing the imitators.
In particular, the hit song ‘Bingo’ played while footage of Turtleman in a waiting room and clips from Turtles’ past activities were shown, triggering deep nostalgia. Additionally, an infinity symbol representing ‘Hidden Singer 8’ appeared alongside the lyrics “sing a song,” sparking various interpretations and curiosity.
Turtleman passed away at home on April 2, 2008, due to a myocardial infarction at the age of 38. Three years prior, in April 2005, he suddenly collapsed near his residence in Jamwon-dong, Seoul, and was rushed to the intensive care unit. At the time, he faced a critical health situation, undergoing two surgeries for myocardial infarction.
After overcoming these hardships and recovering his health, Turtleman continued his passion for music, but sadly passed away just two months after the release of Turtles’ fifth album.
Turtleman debuted in 2001 with Turtles’ first album ‘Go Boogie’. He enjoyed widespread popularity with hits like ‘Why Like This’, ‘Singlala’, ‘Four Seasons’, ‘Bingo’, and ‘Airplane’. He also founded ‘Boogie Entertainment’ and was involved in management, and it was reported that he suffered from significant stress due to a heavy workload during his lifetime, adding to the sadness of his passing.
