NewJeans is currently facing a lawsuit in the US over plagiarism allegations regarding their song ‘How Sweet,’ and their agency has officially spoken out.
On the afternoon of the 9th (KST), an official from ADOR told Xports News, “After checking with Vana, who was in charge of the composition and producing of ‘How Sweet,’ they maintain that no plagiarism occurred.” The official added, “Accordingly, ADOR and the members plan to respond to the lawsuit based on Vana’s position.”
Earlier that morning, Billboard reported that NewJeans members and ADOR officials were sued on the grounds that the single ‘How Sweet,’ released in May 2024, is similar to an external demo song submitted during the songwriting process.

According to the reports, composer Audrey Amacost received an instrumental track from her publisher in January 2024 and was requested to work on top-line lyrics and melodies to be submitted as a candidate for a NewJeans song.
Amacost submitted lyrics and recordings created with three other composers, but the song was not selected. However, she has now filed a lawsuit claiming that the first verse of ‘How Sweet’ is strikingly similar to the first verse of her song ‘One of a Kind.’
The plaintiff is reportedly requesting a proportional share of the profits generated by ‘How Sweet,’ claiming the song was used without a proper license for their demo.
Meanwhile, NewJeans, who have been embroiled in a contract dispute with ADOR, are reportedly preparing for a comeback as a four-member group, excluding Danielle, who received a notice of contract termination.
