The production press conference for ENA’s new Monday-Tuesday drama Doctor Island Boy was held on the afternoon of the 26th at D-Cube City in Sindorim, Guro-gu, Seoul. Director Lee Myung-woo and cast members Shin Ye-eun, Hong Min-ki, Lee Soo-kyung, and Kim Yun-woo attended the event. Lead actor Lee Jae-wook was absent as he enlisted in the army on the 18th.
Based on the webtoon Jonber Doctor, Doctor Island Boy is a medical human romance. The story follows Do Ji (Lee Jae-wook), a public health doctor who arrives at the notorious Pyeondong-do island, and Yuk Ha-ri (Shin Ye-eun), a nurse with many secrets.
During the event, Director Lee Myung-woo was asked about casting Lee Jae-wook and replied, “He has a lovely, calm, and affectionate vibe, yet he also possesses great charisma. I believe he is one of the few young actors who has it all. It is such a shame he couldn’t be here today due to his national defense duty. Needless to say, Lee Jae-wook was the perfect fit for the role of Do Ji in Doctor Island Boy.”
Director Lee continued his high praise, adding, “Lee Jae-wook always arrived on set first to welcome the staff. He was a true mood-maker who led the atmosphere on set so that everyone felt comfortable. He played that role perfectly among both the staff and fellow actors. I think that is why his absence today feels so empty.”
The first episode of Doctor Island Boy will premiere on June 1st at 10 PM.
