Bigger Than BTS's Gwanghwamun Show? The Weeknd Returns to Korea After 8 Years with 100,000 Fans Expected!

Global pop star The Weeknd is finally returning to Korea after 8 long years!

According to Hyundai Card on the 11th, The Weeknd will be hosting “Super Concert 28 The Weeknd” at Goyang Stadium on October 7 and 8.

This marks his first time performing in Korea since the “Hyundai Card Culture Project” back in 2018.

Following in the footsteps of Coldplay in 2017 and Bruno Mars in 2023, this Super Concert is expected to draw a massive crowd of 100,000. This is even more than the attendance at BTS’s Gwanghwamun Square performance.

BTS previously held a concert at Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square on March 21 to celebrate the release of their new album “Arirang”. Although 270,000 people were initially expected, police estimated about 40,000 attendees, while the organizer HYBE estimated around 100,000.

The Weeknd has captured the world’s attention by bringing “Alternative R&B”—a mix of R&B, hip-hop, and electronic music—into the mainstream.

In 2023, he became the first artist to surpass 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His 2019 hit “Blinding Lights” also made history as the first song to stay in the Billboard top 10 for an entire year. Additionally, he won “Best Urban Contemporary Album” at the Grammy Awards for “Beauty Behind the Madness” and other works.

This upcoming show is part of his “After Hours Til Dawn” tour.
