Cha Seung-won Exposes Kim Hee-ae's Sweet Tooth on 'Bonjour Bakery'!

Cha Seung-won has playfully exposed Kim Hee-ae’s cute “personal desire” for desserts while filming ‘Bonjour Bakery’.

During the press conference for Coupang Play’s new variety show ‘Bonjour Bakery’ held on the morning of the 6th at the Myeongdong Community House Masil in Jung-gu, Seoul, Kim Hee-ae shared her reasons for joining. “I wanted to participate because it’s for a great cause, but honestly, I had some personal motives too,” she admitted, adding, “I thought I’d be able to smell the coffee and eat delicious cakes while working.”

In response, Cha Seung-won sparked laughter by revealing, “In reality, Kim Hee-ae sunbaenim ate the most desserts. She ate significantly more than any other member.”

Kim Hee-ae quickly countered, “I actually ate very little because I was self-conscious!” she explained cutely, “I wanted to eat just one, but they wouldn’t give me any. I only got to eat one after the shop closed for the day.”

‘Bonjour Bakery’ is a healing baking variety show set in Korea’s first ‘Senior Dessert Cafe’ located in a quiet rural village. It’s a place where seniors who know the taste of life and bakery staff who know the taste of happiness share sweet comfort and warmth. With a unique ‘Yes Senior Zone’ concept, where only those aged 65 and older and their companions can enter, the show features actors Cha Seung-won and Lee Ki-taek as the ‘Kitchen Team,’ and Kim Hee-ae and Kim Seon-ho as the ‘Hall Team.’

Acting as the ‘Boss’ of ‘Bonjour Bakery,’ Kim Hee-ae charmed guests with her natural elegance and friendliness. “At my age, I’m usually called ‘mom’ or ‘ajumma’ wherever I go, but there, I became a ‘daughter.’ I was so happy,” she shared. “It was rewarding to see the seniors recognize me and welcome me, and I feel like I was able to give them a small piece of happiness.”

She added, “I actually suffered from some body aches after filming. I was so nervous, excited, and had so much fun that there were some after-effects. It was a happy memory, and I’m so sad that it’s over.”

The desserts created by Cha Seung-won and Lee Ki-taek using local specialties from Gochang, Jeonbuk, were perfect in both taste and appearance, all while being affordable. Kim Hee-ae showed her dedication to the program by suggesting the creation of ‘dessert cards’ to introduce the treats.

“Once you know, you start noticing,” Kim Hee-ae said, showing her affection for the treats. “Now when I go to department stores, I find myself comparing them to our desserts. They are so beautiful and delicious, and since they use Gochang specialties, they are fresh and not too sweet. Plus, the affordable pricing makes them even more precious.”

‘Bonjour Bakery’ was created to bring the sweet happiness of K-desserts, which have gained global fame, to rural seniors who often lack access to them. Kim Hee-ae explained that it’s a relatable story for everyone, saying, “It was wonderful to see the seniors feeling happy. I’ll be a senior soon myself, so I feel like the stories of these mothers are not far from our own stories.”

‘Bonjour Bakery’ will premiere this Friday, the 8th, at 4 PM.
