Choi Daniel was moved to tears by a surprise birthday party thrown by his fellow members.
In the May 8th episode of tvN’s ‘Gugidong Friends’, Jang Do-yeon, Lee Da-hee, Jang Keun-suk, Ahn Jae-hyun, and Kyung Soo-jin came together to create a special birthday for Choi Daniel.
During the episode, Choi Daniel shared that the suit picked out for him by Lee Da-hee, Jang Do-yeon, and Kyung Soo-jin had arrived. Lee Da-hee mentioned, “I prepared this because I wanted to give you a birthday present,” to which Choi Daniel playfully joked, “Did you like me?” causing Lee Da-hee to tightly close her eyes.
When Ahn Jae-hyun revealed that Lee Da-hee had asked him for advice, Choi Daniel asked, “Are you coming to the blind date tomorrow?” Lee Da-hee countered with, “It could be me.” This led Kyung Soo-jin and Jang Do-yeon to urge him to cancel the blind date. Meanwhile, Jang Keun-suk, who was filming Choi Daniel, teased that he had a “face in love.”
The gift Lee Da-hee prepared was a pair of handmade shoes, as she had previously learned during a suit shopping trip that Choi Daniel didn’t have any. After Lee Da-hee helped him put on the shoes, a touched Choi Daniel remarked, “I feel like I’m Cinderella and a prince is giving me glass slippers.” He added, “I really didn’t expect this. Lee Da-hee actually knelt down and touched my feet to measure the size,” while Lee Da-hee shared that she was “happy” to do it.
The members then surprised Choi Daniel with a birthday party. Thinking everyone was asleep, Choi Daniel was caught off guard and shed tears, saying, “I thought you were all sleeping.” When the members suggested he tell his father about it, he replied, “My father would love it if he saw this.” Choi Daniel became choked up while looking at photos the members had taken, and the other members were moved as well.
Reflecting on his past birthdays, Choi Daniel confessed, “I don’t really remember any birthdays that were exciting. The one I remember is from my early elementary school years.” He recalled living in a house with a separate toilet and coal heating, where his father bought him a mocha cream cake and Lego. “I remember spending time with my brother and father. I lost my mother at a young age,” he shared.
In an interview, Choi Daniel said, “It’s been a long time since I’ve celebrated my birthday. Spending it like this with everyone feels like fate or destiny. I’m so grateful and touched.”
The following morning, Kyung Soo-jin and Ahn Jae-hyun prepared a birthday meal for Choi Daniel, after which Choi Daniel, Jang Keun-suk, and Ahn Jae-hyun headed out for a group blind date.
