Choi Won-young Triggers Workplace PTSD in 'Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness' with Subtle Inferiority Complex Toward Go Youn-jung

Actor Choi Won-young is making a huge impact in the JTBC weekend drama ‘Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness’ (hereafter ‘Everyone is Fighting’), perfectly nailing the role of a petty yet all-too-realistic boss.

Choi Dong-hyun, played by Choi Won-young, is the CEO of the successful film company ‘Choi Film’ and is the textbook definition of someone who is “strong to the weak and weak to the strong.” By showing subtle inferiority toward talented employees and coldly dismissing those he deems inferior, he perfectly captures the reality of office life, earning plenty of sympathy from viewers.

He naturally brings out the character’s annoying side through subtle facial expressions and tone rather than over-the-top acting. His sarcastic tone and cynical attitude toward Byeon Eun-ah (played by Go Youn-jung), combined with his constant reminders that “this is my company,” are sure to trigger some anger in viewers.

His pathetic yet realistic side reached a peak in a scene where he took his frustrations out on Byeon Eun-ah after Hwang Dong-man (played by Koo Kyo-hwan) shook things up at the company. Even small details, like the way he throws a script, add to the character’s irritating charm.

But Choi Dong-hyun isn’t just someone to hate. His blunt yet realistic approach, where he doesn’t actually say anything wrong, and the way he cuts straight to the point with the intimidating Hwang Dong-man provide a strange sense of satisfaction. Plus, seeing him eventually get a taste of his own medicine from the people he looked down on adds a touch of pitiful charm.

Having shown a wide acting spectrum across movies, dramas, and plays, Choi Won-young has once again revealed a new side of himself. His delicate delivery and realistic emotional expression are heightening the immersion of the show and earning rave reviews from viewers.

Meanwhile, the episode ended with a shocker: it was revealed that Byeon Eun-ah is actually the biological daughter of national actress Oh Jung-hee (played by Bae Jong-ok). All eyes are now on how Choi Dong-hyun, who is still in the dark, will change his tune.

‘Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness’ tells the story of characters dealing with relative deprivation and jealousy among successful friends. It airs every Saturday at 10:40 PM and Sunday at 10:30 PM.
