This “cute but crazy” drama is keeping viewers hooked with its totally unpredictable plot!
Coupang Play’s ‘Absolute Value of Romance’ is building a huge fanbase with its dopamine-inducing twists and “infuriatingly” funny comedy. In episodes 9 and 10, releasing May 8th at 8 PM, we’ll see Kim Hyang-gi enter her “denial phase” of falling in love and Cha Hak-yeon deliver a shocking performance in two different roles.
In these upcoming episodes, the plot of the hit web novel ‘We Were Friends,’ written by the protagonist Uiju (Kim Hyang-gi), is set to spark viewers’ imaginations. In particular, Cha Hak-yeon’s visual transformation in the released preview stills is absolutely stunning.
A complete 180 from the neat ‘Usu’ in the real world, Cha Hak-yeon transforms into ‘Sion,’ sporting a flashy red leather coat and a unique hairstyle, capturing eyes with his mad charm. Fans are eager to see the synergy between his dual-role acting and the tense events surrounding Yun (Kim Dong-gyu), who is tied up and unconscious within the novel.

The romance in the real world is also heating up! A seismic shift is happening between Uiju and Usu, whose relationship had been more of a “hate relationship” than a typical teacher-student bond. Uiju’s confusion as she realizes her true feelings marks the start of her “denial phase,” adding a flutter of excitement to the story.
Adding to the tension is the arrival of a new character, ‘Nadeuri’ (Jung Da-on). A scene showing Usu looking unusually relaxed while sitting across from Nadeuri creates curiosity about how the strange vibe between them will affect Uiju. Uiju watching them while feeling intimidated hints at a potential love triangle or the start of an unpredictable relationship.

‘Absolute Value of Romance’ is a teen comedy about a high school girl who writes novels about flower-boy teachers and ends up entangled with them in real life. Thanks to the stylish direction of directors Lee Tae-gon and Kim Jun-hyung, along with the passionate performances of Kim Hyang-gi and Cha Hak-yeon, it has established itself as one of Coupang Play’s hit series.
