Defconn, Yoo In-na, and Kim Poong were left fuming over a horrific animal abuse case.
On the May 11th episode of Channel A’s ‘Detective’s Business Secrets,’ Defconn, Yoo In-na, and Kim Poong appeared as guests.
The ‘Detective 24 Hours’ segment revealed a heartbreaking story about a client seeking the fate of their dog, Gureum (pseudonym), who had been left with a temporary caregiver. The owner had entrusted the dog to the caregiver due to an overseas work assignment. Everything seemed fine for the first year, but then contact was suddenly cut off. Later, the caregiver claimed Gureum had passed away, yet there was no death certificate or medical record to prove it.
An acquaintance of the caregiver reported that the person was keeping more than 15 pets. The source revealed the abuse, stating, “At gatherings, they would kick the dogs if they didn’t listen.”
On the day of the raid, four animal rights organizations, the police, and local government officials gathered. A severe stench filled the hallway, and there was no barking even when the door was knocked. The caregiver only allowed one police officer and an animal detective inside. The first dog to be led out was a Retriever in a devastating state. The dog was skeletal, with its bones clearly visible and deep hollows in its ribcage. Defconn was outraged, shouting, “This is abuse!”
Even more shocking, there were carcasses inside the house. The home was a chaotic mess of trash and animal waste. In a gruesome scene, living dogs were found right next to a carcass in the living room. All the surviving dogs were skeletal. Yoo In-na remarked, “They are literally on the verge of starvation,” while Kim Poong lamented, “They couldn’t even bark because they didn’t have the strength.”
More carcasses were discovered, including a dog the acquaintance had been worried about. Gureum was eventually found inside a trash bag. As more bodies were uncovered, the rescue team expressed their heartbreak, asking, “How could someone eat while keeping dogs in this state?” and “This is just too pitiful.” The caregiver made the absurd excuse that they had “cared for them well.” The animal detective, who had been trying to hold back their anger, finally exploded, saying, “This is not okay. If they died, you should have reported it!”
Yoo In-na said, “I can’t believe this,” and Kim Poong was speechless with rage. Defconn added, “I have never seen such a miserable scene. It’s absolutely horrific. How could they eat while living like this?” Even veteran trainers mentioned they had never encountered a scene this bad.
Defconn expressed his heartbreak for Gureum’s owner, saying, “What about Gureum’s owner? They piled the dog in a trash bag, put another carcass on top, and lied about cremation. The rescued dogs would have died if just a little more time had passed.” Kim Poong added, “I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. Imagine how terrified they must have been.”
In total, the carcasses of six dogs and two cats were found, while five dogs and three cats were rescued alive. The caregiver claimed Gureum died of starvation but insisted, “I didn’t intentionally starve or abuse them.” To this, Defconn countered, “They didn’t just die; you killed them.”
Despite the evidence, the caregiver initially refused to give up ownership of the dogs. Yoo In-na questioned the psychology behind it, saying, “I completely fail to understand. After leaving them in that state, how can they still want to keep them? How can a human being look at that?” After lengthy persuasion, the caregiver finally signed a waiver of ownership.
