Director Park Bong-seop has revealed the heartwarming reason why he decided to adapt a popular novel into a film!
On May 13 at 2 PM, a press screening and conference for the movie ‘The Strange Candy Store Zenitendo’ was held at Megabox Coex in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, attended by Ra Mi-ran, Lee Re, and Director Park Bong-seop.
During the event, Director Park spoke about the adaptation, saying, “I was already familiar with the original work. My daughter in elementary school enjoyed the books, and I read them out of curiosity and found them really interesting as well.”
He continued, “Many of the works I have directed in the past were intense genre pieces. I felt that I should try something completely different this time, and the biggest reason I chose this project was the thought of creating something I could watch together with my daughter.”
Director Park also shared his focus on the editing process, stating, “The main point I focused on while filming was the sense of speed. Originally, each story takes about 30 minutes, but my goal was to condense them so that viewers could stay more immersed.” He added, “The conflict between Yomi and Hong-ja is quite lengthy in the original, so I edited it to be more concise to help the audience focus better.”
‘The Strange Candy Store Zenitendo’ is a fantasy drama film that tells a magical story about customers with lucky coins who visit Zenitendo, a candy store that grants wishes. It is based on the novel of the same name by author Reiko Hiroshima.
Ra Mi-ran takes on the role of Hong-ja, the mysterious owner of Zenitendo, while Lee Re plays Yomi, the owner of Hwa-ang-dang who threatens Zenitendo.
The movie is scheduled to be released on May 29.
