[Exclusive] Choi Soo-young in Talks for New KBS2 Weekend Drama by Writer Yang Hee-seung!

Choi Soo-young is currently positively reviewing an offer to star in “I’ve Been to School,” an upcoming KBS2 weekend drama written by Yang Hee-seung. The project has already garnered attention with reports that actors Lee Jung-eun and Yoo Jun-sang are also reviewing their roles. The story follows a middle-aged woman who finds a turning point in her life after enrolling in college later in life. This marks writer Yang Hee-seung’s return to KBS weekend dramas for the first time since the 2020 hit “Once Again” starring Lee Min-jung and Lee Sang-yeob. The drama is expected to air following “Love Comes,” starring Ha Seok-jin and Ahn Hee-yeon, which is scheduled for August.

Choi Soo-young, a member of the legendary girl group Girls’ Generation, has built a successful career as a talented actress. She recently received praise for her mature acting in works like “Idol Eye,” “Please Take Care of Geum-ju,” and “Family Matters.” If she joins, this will be her first weekend drama in 10 years since MBC’s “The Man Who Sets the Table” in 2017. Having focused on mini-series recently, Choi Soo-young is reportedly considering this role based on her trust in writer Yang Hee-seung.

Writer Yang Hee-seung is beloved by viewers for balancing artistic quality and popularity in hits such as “High School King of Savvy” (2014), “Oh My Ghost” (2015), “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo” (2016), “Familiar Wife” (2018), “Once Again” (2020), “Crash Course in Romance” (2023), and “Hundred Memories” (2025). She is also currently serving as a creator for the tvN drama “Secret Audit.” “I’ve Been to School” is expected to capture the warm family vibes typical of KBS weekend dramas. Fans are eager to see the chemistry between Choi Soo-young and writer Yang. The series will be directed by Lee Woong-hee, who earned praise for “Unexpectedly Encountered You” (2023) and “I Stole the Male Lead’s First Night” (2025).

With the casting lineup steadily coming together, “I’ve Been to School” is scheduled to air in 2027, following “Love Comes” (which itself follows the current KBS2 weekend drama “Prescribing Love”).

Meanwhile, Choi Soo-young continues her busy schedule with the play “The Merchant of Venice,” opening on July 8, and the movie “Okay Madam 2,” releasing this summer.
