Former pro baseball player Song Seung-jun has been swept up in a “debt investment” controversy following a failure to repay a debt amounting to hundreds of millions of won.
According to a report by Dispatch on the 15th, the Daegu District Court ordered Song Seung-jun on the 6th to pay a total of 110 million won to creditor A, which includes 100 million won in principal and 10 million won in agreed interest. The issue began when Song borrowed money from A in December 2024 for business funds alongside an acquaintance but failed to pay it back on time.
Song was reportedly involved in a massive development project to build a complex leisure facility, including baseball fields, soccer fields, and hotels, in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions. While the project was valued at 1.8 trillion won, its actual existence is currently unclear.
Adding to the shock, it was revealed that the project lead, B, is currently serving time in Anyang Prison for allegedly deceiving others by pretending to possess assets worth thousands of trillions of won.
As the controversy grew, Song Seung-jun expressed his frustration, claiming he is being unfairly blamed. He explained that he merely signed as a joint debtor when his acquaintance borrowed the money and did not use the funds himself. He also disputed the total amount, claiming the sum he owes is actually 55 million won.
However, creditor A expressed outrage, stating they lent the money because they trusted Song Seung-jun’s fame and had been subjected to “false hope” for the past year and five months without any repayment.
After the court ruled in favor of the creditor, Song hurriedly deposited 50 million won on the 15th as news reports began to surface. A reacted bitterly, noting how sad it was that the payment was only made in a rush to stop the media coverage.
Song Seung-jun recently confirmed his appearance in Studio C1’s ‘Fire Baseball’ Season 2 and is scheduled for a live game at the Gocheok Sky Dome on the 24th. With his glamorous return on the horizon, all eyes are on how he will resolve this debt controversy before facing his fans.
