
Voice actor Yamazaki Wakana, known for her role in ‘Detective Conan’, has passed away.
Her agency, Aoni Production, announced on the 15th that Yamazaki Wakana, who voiced Mori Ran, passed away this past April at the age of 61.
The agency shared, “Our voice actor Yamazaki Wakana passed away on April 18 after a long battle with an illness.” They added that the funeral was held privately with only close relatives in attendance.
The ‘Detective Conan’ production team also expressed their grief, stating, “We mourn the passing of Yamazaki Wakana, who voiced Mori Ran for 30 years since the TV series began in 1996.” They added, “We are deeply grateful for her hard work and contributions to the series and sincerely pray for her soul to rest in peace.”
Original creator Gosho Aoyama also shared a touching tribute, saying, “It is so sad that I can no longer hear that voice which I always took for granted.” He continued, “I will move forward while cherishing the legacy she left in the work. I pray that Yamazaki Wakana rests in peace.”
Yamazaki Wakana had completely halted her voice acting activities in February due to health issues. Since the episode aired on March 14, another voice actor, Akemi Okamura, has been voicing Mori Ran.
Beyond ‘Detective Conan’, Yamazaki Wakana was active in numerous animations, including ‘Sally the Witch’, ‘Chibi Maruko-chan’, ‘Crayon Shin-chan’, ‘Pokémon’, and ‘Kindaichi Case Files’.
