Flare U Debuts with ‘YOUTH ERROR,’ Celebrating the Beauty of Imperfection!

A fresh and energetic male duo has arrived! Choi Lip-woo and Kang Woo-jin, who met on Mnet’s ‘Boys 2 Planet’ (BoPle 2), have officially entered the music scene as Flare U, bringing the vibrant energy of unfinished youth.

On the afternoon of the 13th, Flare U (Choi Lip-woo and Kang Woo-jin) held a debut showcase for their 1st Mini Album ‘YOUTH ERROR’ at the Blue Square Woori WON Hall in Seoul.

Flare U is a duo consisting of Choi Lip-woo and Kang Woo-jin, both of whom were recognized for their skills and potential on Mnet’s ‘Boys 2 Planet’ last year. Having shown exceptional teamwork throughout the program, the two joined forces as a team thanks to the wishes of many fans.

Speaking about transitioning from a solo artist to a duo, Choi Lip-woo shared, “While I achieved some success as a solo artist, I felt lonely. Now that I have a friend to go through the hardships with, I feel less alone. Although there is pressure, I’m more excited than burdened because we can achieve great things together.” Kang Woo-jin added, “I’m so happy that we can finally talk about this officially. I knew people had been waiting for a long time, and many have already congratulated us.”

Flare U is operating as a male duo, which is quite rare in the current music scene. Regarding the advantages of being a duo, Kang Woo-jin noted, “Coordinating opinions is quick and easy. We also spend less time wandering compared to larger groups, and each of us gets more parts.” Choi Lip-woo added, “Since we have more parts, I think it’s a great advantage that our individual colors can shine through. Also, since there aren’t many senior duos these days, that’s actually our own unique strength and color. We have different characters, but I believe we complement and complete each other.”

Regarding their chemistry, Choi Lip-woo said, “During ‘BoPle 2,’ Kang Woo-jin felt like a younger brother. He was a cute character who would cling to me, but after becoming a team, he’s turned out to be a more reliable younger brother who takes good care of me.” Kang Woo-jin praised his partner, saying, “When I first saw him before ‘BoPle 2,’ he looked like a high school student and had a student-like personality, so I thought he was cute. But after living and practicing together, I’ve realized he’s much more professional and mature than I thought.”

Choi Lip-woo opened up about the pressure of debuting as a duo, saying, “Inevitably, there was some. Since duos aren’t common, I worried if we could do well, but Woo-jin and I worked hard to supplement those areas because we really wanted to repay our fans.”

“It would be a lie to say there was no pressure,” Kang Woo-jin confessed. “At first, I was very worried, but because of the time we spent together through thick and thin on ‘BoPle 2’ and our own shared narrative, I felt we could do it. After actually working together, I’ve gained confidence that we can do even better than expected.”

Their debut album ‘YOUTH ERROR’ is a record of two youths who make mistakes, fall, and possess different errors. Amidst days that didn’t go as planned and endless choices, the two experience numerous trials and errors before finally looking in the same direction. The mini-album depicts the process of two youths meeting as one team, complementing each other to create a single light.

The title track ‘WAY 2 U’ is a hybrid pop song that combines the glitchy sound of Hyper Pop and the rhythmical groove of Plug&B over a bouncy pluck riff and upbeat rhythm. It captures the excitement of realizing feelings for a friend, triggered by a sudden emotion like a phone vibration, and running toward them without hesitation. Choi Lip-woo’s clear, soft vocals and Kang Woo-jin’s warm, refreshing tones blend naturally despite their different textures, while the cute choreography maximizes the feeling of excitement.

Flare U explained their debut song, saying, “The cute performance is a key feature of the album. The choreography is cute and has a story, so it’s fun to enjoy. The choreography of the title track and the story of the B-side ‘Hyper’ are connected. ‘Hyper’ has a story about two people becoming connected by a thread.”

Beyond the title track, ‘YOUTH ERROR’ is filled with tracks showcasing diverse emotions. The Drum&Bass track ‘Hyper’ features an energetic performance, while the funk track ‘WOO-HOO’ portrays the free spirit of boys letting themselves go to the rhythm, completing Flare U’s own ‘youth performance.’ The album also includes the pop house track ‘Don’t Cry,’ their first fan song ‘MIRACLE’ containing a brilliant confession to their fans, and ‘Playground,’ which evokes forgotten dreams and excitement, for a total of six songs.

When asked about a nickname they’d like to be called, Choi Lip-woo chose ‘Vitamin Vending Machine,’ stating, “I want to be someone you can press for vitamins whenever you need them. I hope people can get energy from us whenever they want.” Kang Woo-jin shared his ambition, saying, “I want us to be remembered as a team that grows steadily and one that many people can relate to.”

Finally, regarding the achievements they hope to reach as a group, Flare U expressed, “As rookies, we really hope we can win a Rookie Award.”

Connected by sincerity and a deep bond, these two begin a new story within moments that shine brighter because they are not perfect. Flare U released their debut album ‘YOUTH ERROR’ today (13th) at 6 PM and held ‘Debut News’ at 8 PM at the Blue Square Woori WON Banking Hall in Seoul.
