‘Brave New World’ hit the ground running, ranking #1 in Netflix’s ‘Today’s Top 10’ (Korea) and topping the Global Non-English TV show category. It also dominated home screens with ratings soaring up to 7.8%.
The story kicks off when Kang Hee-bin, the notorious villain of the Joseon era who died by poison, possesses the body of an unknown actress named Shin Seo-ri. The core narrative is a high-tension, war-like romance between her and Cha Se-gye (Heo Nam-jun), a ruthless chaebol known as a “monster of capitalism.”

Any potential risks were completely erased thanks to the “possessed” acting skills of the lead actors.
Lim Ji-yeon and Heo Nam-jun delivered an incredible interpretation of their characters and unmatched chemistry, proving that great acting is the ultimate plot device.
Lim Ji-yeon transformed what could have been an exaggerated possession act into something believable with her signature sharp charisma and slyness. Her delicate emotional control added realism to the fantasy setting, filling any gaps in the script and earning praise for establishing the story’s plausibility. Heo Nam-jun also stood out, breaking away from the typical chaebol trope to create a multi-dimensional character who hides human vulnerability beneath a cold exterior.
In particular, the bizarre ‘hate-to-love’ romance where the two clash in an ‘evil vs evil’ battle from their very first meeting is cited as the biggest ‘stan point’ of the drama. Their chemistry, where they instinctively attract each other while pushing one another away, has been blowing up online communities at the end of every episode.
