Han Sun-hwa Opens Up About Her Love for Indie Films and Acting Goals!

Actress Han Sun-hwa recently shared her goals and aspirations for her acting career.

To celebrate the release of the movie Student Teacher, TV Report sat down with Han Sun-hwa at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul. In this film, she takes on the role of Eun-kyung, a passionate student teacher who digs into the truth behind a mysterious black magic club.

Before the release of Student Teacher, Han Sun-hwa met audiences through the drama Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness (hereafter Mo-Ja-Mu-Ssa). Regarding the buzz surrounding her performance, she shared, “The drama is progressing in a fun way, and I’m truly grateful that so many people like it. It was a happiness just watching my seniors act. Since it was a great set with wonderful people, I wanted to do even better. I hoped for a great synergy.”

When asked why she joined the drama, Han Sun-hwa said, “The script was just too good.” She explained, “Usually, when I receive a drama script, I approach it professionally by researching my character and how to express them. However, the script for Mo-Ja-Mu-Ssa was one I could actually relax with. It’s the kind of script I want to revisit whenever I need healing, like reading a great novel. I definitely want to buy the script book if it’s released.”

In Mo-Ja-Mu-Ssa, Han Sun-hwa is shining as actress Jang Mi-ran. She explained her attraction to the role, saying, “It was interesting to play the role of an actress as an actress. I’ve always wanted to try a role like this, and I thought I could express it better because I am an actress myself.”

She also showed her affection for the character, adding, “Mi-ran may look glamorous on the outside, but in the end, she’s just a human fighting against her own sense of worthlessness. Everyone has loneliness hidden behind the glamour and a private life that others don’t know about. I really empathized with that part.”

Thanks to her immersive acting in this drama, Han Sun-hwa’s entire filmography is being spotlighted once again. She has steadily expanded her acting spectrum across dramas, movies, independent films, and commercial cinema. When asked if anything has changed since she first started acting, she replied, “Nothing has. I’m still the same person. I believed that if I just gave my best every time, something would eventually come of it.”

She added, “I realized it’s been 16 years since I started acting. Since I balanced acting with my idol activities, that much time has passed, but I try not to let my mindset or preparation attitude change when approaching a role or a project. Every project is difficult, and I’ve never started one thinking I’d be great at it. There’s no other way but to stay calm and just do what I’ve always done.”

Regarding the characters she wants to play in the future, Han Sun-hwa showed her passion for new challenges, saying, “There are still many works and characters I haven’t encountered. I’m still very interested in independent and low-budget films, and I’m open to everything. If my schedule and conditions allow, I’d love to do them. Since I’ve been working on many commercial films lately, I sometimes hear that people think I won’t do indie films anymore, but that’s not true. I’m still waiting.”

Student Teacher, which marks a new milestone in Han Sun-hwa’s acting career, is now playing in theaters.
