Young-sook from ‘I am Solo’ 6th Gen has shared her journey of battling thyroid cancer.
On the 11th, a video was uploaded to Young-sook’s YouTube channel showing her undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer.
Upon arriving at the hospital for her procedure, Young-sook expressed regret for not taking better care of her health. She shared, “Looking back, there were many symptoms. I felt pain and fatigue, and I saw the swelling, but I regret ignoring them. I blamed myself a lot after being diagnosed with cancer, thinking I just felt unwell because my condition had dropped.”
She recalled, “I went to a local clinic without any suspicion, and they immediately suggested a fine-needle aspiration biopsy. The results were very poor. Afterward, I went to a university hospital. ‘Cancer’ felt like such a distant word, but the moment I heard it, I burst into tears.”
Just before entering the operating room, she showed her nerves, telling her husband, 6th Gen Young-chul, “This is scarier than childbirth. Childbirth was nothing compared to this. I’m scared of how much it will hurt.”

Fortunately, the surgery was successful, and Young-sook picked up her camera again a few days later. She shared, “They said it would be better to stay at the hospital longer, but I’m being discharged because I have a schedule at a nursing hospital. My face really isn’t in great shape. The edema has become so severe that everything is swollen. It’s even hard to breathe, but I’m managing. Perhaps because it was cancer surgery, the recovery is slower and much harder than I expected.”
After moving to the nursing hospital, she prepared a cake and held a small birthday party for Young-chul. Young-sook said, “I felt very depressed and struggled after the cancer surgery, but I think I’ve overcome it wisely thanks to my husband. I still have radioisotope therapy left, but just as I’ve passed this big hurdle, I will endure this as well.”
Meanwhile, Young-sook appeared as a cast member of the 6th Gen of SBS Plus and ENA’s ‘I am Solo’ in 2022. She developed a relationship with fellow member Young-chul and married him that same year. The couple has one son and one daughter.
