I.O.I Makes a Stunning Comeback After 9 Years with New Album and Solo Concert!

Group I.O.I is making a surprise return to the music scene after 9 years, fueled by their strong musical bond.

I.O.I will officially kick off their activities with the release of their third mini album, “I.O.I : LOOP,” on various online music sites today, May 19, at 6 PM.

Despite the long hiatus, the members came together to complete this new album as they approach the monumental milestone of their 10th debut anniversary. After spending about 9 years honing their skills in their respective fields, the nine members plan to prove their enduring teamwork through tracks spanning a variety of genres.

An audio snippet previously released on their official social media channels raised expectations among global music fans, featuring highlight melodies from six songs set against an analog film-style visual.

The title track, “Suddenly,” which serves as the centerpiece of this comeback, is a Synth-pop song that sensually captures the fragments of the past and the longing that rush in at unexpected moments. Member Jeon Somi personally drafted the lyrics, reflecting the sincerity of their shared journey and the poignant emotion of their reunion. In particular, the dreamy outro sound at the end is expected to leave a lasting impression on listeners.

The group’s musical spectrum has expanded significantly as the members took a leading role in producing the album. The first track, “IOI (Where My Girls At),” which credits Jeon Somi, blends the team’s signature refreshing energy over a cheerful house beat. “SPF 100+ (Summer Pop Fantasy),” an Afrobeats track using the witty theme of sunscreen, also delivers a refreshing summer vibe.

Their narrative, built over several years, connects like a drama through the B-side tracks. “IF I,” a rock track led by Yoo Yeonjung, shouts out their unwavering bond over the last 10 years with a bold band sound. The ballad “Us Then, Us Now,” featuring Chungha, was designed as a response song that continues the narrative of their mega-hit “Downpour.” The combination of a calm piano and grand string melodies creates a cozy atmosphere, embracing the moment of reunion where they confirm each other’s warmth.

Adding to the emotion, the archive track “Goodbye with a Smile (Recorded in 2016),” produced by Jinyoung and pre-released on the 4th, serves as the album’s finale. Containing the fresh vocals and warm greetings from the 2016 recording, the track adds significance as a symbol of the starting point for the future they will write together.

While public attention is focused on this new release that encapsulates the team’s history and musical growth, direct communication with fans has also been announced.

Following the music release, I.O.I will open the “2026 I.O.I Concert Tour: LOOP” with a solo concert at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul for three days, from May 29 to 31.
