“I owe Han Young-ae sunbaenim a great debt.”
Entertainer Shin Dong-yup bowed politely as he recalled a great kindness he received from singer Han Young-ae during his high school years.
On the May 16 episode of KBS 2TV’s ‘Immortal Songs’, which celebrated the 50th debut anniversary of legendary artist Han Young-ae, MC Shin Dong-yup shared a special story from their past.
On stage, Shin Dong-yup began by saying, “I’m saying this now in case I forget, but I really owe Han Young-ae sunbaenim a great debt.”
Recalling his school days, he shared, “In 1987, I was in the broadcasting club at Gyeongbok High School. I went to recruit Jeon In-kwon for the school festival, and Han Young-ae sunbaenim was right there. She just said, ‘I’ll go too,’ and performed at the high school festival without any appearance fee.” He then bowed deeply to express his sincere gratitude.

To this, Han Young-ae responded with a smile, saying, “I remember.”
Still moved, Shin Dong-yup expressed his gratitude again, saying, “I’ve never forgotten that kindness my whole life. Thank you once again. For me, it was an unforgettable autumn of my second year of high school in 1987. I want to thank you again here.”
Han Young-ae responded with her witty charm, saying, “I still want to sing at high school festivals. But maybe it’s because of my age, I don’t get any calls,” which left the set in laughter.
Hearing this, Shin Dong-yup added a witty comment, “Even the principal might find it intimidating,” keeping the atmosphere light and cheerful.
