[Interview] CRAVITY: Proving Their Worth Through 6 Years of Hard Work

Every moment and every activity since their debut has been a continuous challenge. Nothing was handed to them easily or by mere luck. Their secret to enduring six years through numerous turning points and achieving today’s success lies in their skill, consistency, and teamwork. Acting sometimes as family and sometimes as pacemakers, they have led each other’s growth without tiring.

Debuting during the COVID-19 pandemic brought many unexpected situations. Even after gaining recognition for their skills by winning the survival program ‘Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace’, there were many moments where they had to prove their own value and existence. They even underwent a rebranding process, redefining their group name and changing their leader. Their recently released 8th mini album ‘ReDeFINE’ was another challenge for CRAVITY. While their previous full album featured songs and stages that highlighted a refreshing charm over performance, this time they emphasized conceptual performances, once again showcasing their side as ‘Perfovity’.

“Among the various options presented by the choreography teacher, the members shared their opinions and chose the direction that best suited the song to build the performance. We tried to increase the quality while utilizing the strengths of being a large group. (Wonjin)”

“There have been many different modifiers ending in ‘vity’ so far, but since we’ve returned with a dark look this time, I want us to get the nickname ‘Darkvity’. I want to get reactions saying it’s a new side of us. (Allen)”

CRAVITY, who proved their musical capabilities through their second full album ‘Dare to Crave’ last year—where all members participated in songwriting and composing—once again increased the quality of their work through active participation.

“I participated in writing the lyrics for several B-sides and the title track. When working on the title track, I thought of the keyword Ouroboros and incorporated snake elements. I wrote the lyrics to convey the meaning of ‘swallowing the end and starting anew’ and ‘never having planned for the end’. (Serim)”

“I participated in the lyrics and composition of ‘Spring, with You’. When I first received the theme ‘the end is a beginning’, I thought of the warm spring that comes after the cold of winter. I tried to express that feeling in both the sound and the lyrics. (Allen)”

“I heard that there are almost no idol content series that exceed 100 episodes. The members provide a lot of active opinions and have a lot of affection for it. Since the fans love it too, we are filming it with happy hearts. (Sungmin)”

“I love all the episodes, but the 2026 season is especially fun, so if there are people who haven’t seen it yet, I hope you watch that season. We try to show our natural selves in daily life rather than a polished image, and I think people find that part entertaining. I think a lot of the members’ opinions will go into the new season as well. (Wonjin)”

Through a 2025 rebranding, CRAVITY changed their leader from Serim to Wonjin and then Hyungjun. Their teamwork remains unchanged and strong. They are full of mutual respect and consideration, understanding the responsibility of the leader.

“I received many questions about whether it was hard being the leader alone for five years, but I was always grateful because the members treated me well and followed along. The atmosphere didn’t change just because the leader changed. I think the heart of thinking about and caring for each other is being well-maintained. (Serim)”

“Nothing has changed from before. Serim hyung and Wonjin hyung continue to help me. However, since I am the leader, I try to do everything properly—whether it’s preparing before a schedule or in every other aspect—to show a good side of myself as a leader. My own mindset has changed. (Hyungjun)”

As CRAVITY celebrates their 6th anniversary, contract renewals are an unavoidable topic. However, they are not rushing and plan to decide their next step through sufficient discussion with the members.

“We inevitably talked about contract renewals before this comeback, but I thought the comeback should come first. So, we decided to finish this activity well and then organize our thoughts together. I think we will settle things with the members after the activities are over. (Hyungjun)”

CRAVITY ambitiously changed the meaning of their team name, centering it on the elements of ‘Crave’ and ‘Gravity’. However, what they crave is surprisingly the process of enjoying happiness together with their fans rather than the results.

“Actually, I’m happy right now. I know that obsessing over results only makes you more unhappy. I’m satisfied with meeting Luvity through music and am enjoying the present. When you enjoy the process, happiness finds you naturally. (Allen)”

“I believe you need goals to move forward, so I have a clear goal for this year. I want to finish the year well and attend a few more award shows than last year. I want to become a cool senior like the MONSTA X hyungs. I want to put on even more amazing stages like MONSTA X, and I will keep thinking and working hard to make that happen. (Hyungjun)”
