Jo Hye-ryun Breaks Down During Lecture, Opens Up About Menopause and Physical Pain on 'Sebasi'

Comedian Jo Hye-ryun has opened up about her health concerns and honest feelings as she enters middle age.

On the 27th of last month, a video titled “The Emptiness of Middle Age, This Is How I Overcame It” was released on the ‘Sebasi’ channel. During the lecture, Jo Hye-ryun shared a sincere story about her current physical condition. She became emotional and shed tears, saying, “Recently, I had a stiff shoulder, making it hard to dance. I took painkillers to get on stage, but receiving the energy from the audience made my arms move naturally.”

Jo Hye-ryun also spoke honestly about the physical changes she is experiencing in her 50s and beyond. Along with symptoms of frozen shoulder, she explained, “I’ve also gone through menopause, and I feel significant changes in my body.” Specifically, she revealed that joint pain has become more frequent, and on rainy days, the pain in her previously injured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) worsens. She noted that these physical struggles led to “psychological burdens” beyond just the pain.

Jo Hye-ryun shared her inner thoughts, saying, “When my condition drops, my mood sinks too. I worried it might affect my family.” She added, “I wondered if it would be harder to get along with my husband like before, and my worries for my children grew.”

Ironically, she named ‘soccer’ as the driving force that helped her stand back up. While saying, “I feel most alive when playing soccer,” she recalled the deep frustration she felt after her ACL injury. She received applause as she shared, “After consistently focusing on rehabilitation for a year, I was able to stand on the pitch again.”

Finally, Jo Hye-ryun emphasized, “There were moments when I felt everything was over, but by not giving up and enduring, I was eventually able to do it again. The strength to endure in any situation is important.”
