KBS has brought home some amazing honors from the 59th Houston International Film Festival!

According to KBS on the 8th, the KBS 1TV production “6.25 Special Project – Korean War Mobile Trauma Center” won the Grand Prize in the Historical Short category.

“6.25 Special Project – Korean War Mobile Trauma Center” is a documentary that examines the Korean War from a medical perspective, focusing on the MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) operated by the US military.

The production team meticulously researched the era using rare historical records, domestic and international research papers, and survivor testimonies. They even used generative AI technology to realistically recreate war scenes, which was praised for increasing the overall quality and immersion.

Additionally, the special documentary “I Do Not Bid Farewell,” produced by KBS Gwangju, won the Jury Special Award in the Short Documentary category.

Created to mark the 100th day of the Jeju Air passenger plane tragedy, “I Do Not Bid Farewell” focuses on the stories of Kim Seong-cheol, who lost his wife and daughter, and Park In-uk, a former official who handled the aftermath of the West Sea Ferry and Sewol Ferry accidents but lost five family members in this tragedy. The film was praised for its delicate portrayal of the deep scars and sorrow left by the disaster.

KBS shared, “As a public broadcaster, we will continue to produce excellent content that carries timely values and social significance to communicate with viewers worldwide.”

For those who don’t know, the Houston International Film Festival started in 1961 and is the third oldest independent film festival in North America, dedicated to discovering and awarding outstanding independent films and videos.

This is a huge achievement for KBS, coming seven years after they swept all 13 entries they submitted to the festival back in 2019!
