The Coupang Play series Absolute Value of Romance (released every Friday at 8 PM) has captivated audiences with Kim Hyang-gi and Cha Hak-yeon’s dedicated comedic performances and unpredictable plot twists.
In Episode 7, the laughter started early as Woo-soo (Cha Hak-yeon) exploded with anger after Eui-ju (Kim Hyang-gi) boldly swapped his manuscript. However, the humor was short-lived. Under secret pressure from Da-ju (Kim Jae-hyun) to film Woo-soo—who had refused to participate in a documentary—Eui-ju attempted to film him covertly but was caught red-handed, leading to a disastrous situation.
During this process, Woo-soo’s deep past trauma regarding cameras was revealed. His bitter remark, “Betrayal is a feeling you only get because you trusted someone,” left Eui-ju overwhelmed with guilt. Soon after, Eui-ju suddenly collapsed without warning, and a panicked Woo-soo rushed her to the emergency room, heightening the tension.

The highlight of Episode 8 was the “Emergency Room Catastrophe.” Eui-ju, mistakenly believing she had a terminal illness, began pouring out her final goodbyes while a distressed Woo-soo didn’t know what to do. However, when the absurd diagnosis was finally revealed, viewers were left in fits of laughter.
Kim Hyang-gi’s desperate struggle to “transfer schools” to escape her most embarrassing moment ever, combined with Cha Hak-yeon’s comedic acting as his soul seemingly left his body in disbelief, created a legendary scene worthy of a “lovely wacky drama.”
The evolving relationship between the 두 people, which has grown stronger through these crises, is also drawing attention. Woo-soo encouraged Eui-ju to write the stories she truly wants to tell, rather than just writing for inspection, offering “tsundere”-style support by saying, “I’ll try to understand that leap of faith for once.”
Absolute Value of Romance is being hailed as the peak of “lovely wacky dramas.” Fans are eager to see what lies ahead for this teacher-student duo.
