Singer Kim Jin-pyo is stepping up to support creators and spread the “writing” culture, carrying on the legacy of his maternal grandfather.
The Ko Hong-myung & Ham Eun-sook Cultural Foundation officially kicked off its activities with a launch ceremony on the 13th at the Seoul Donhwamun Traditional Theater. This public interest foundation was established to honor the wishes of the late Chairman Ko Hong-myung, founder of Korea Pilot Pen, and President Ham Eun-sook.
Serving as the foundation’s chairman, Kim Jin-pyo shared that he rediscovered the importance of recording while organizing his grandfather’s old diaries. He noted that the messy handwriting in the final diary, written at the age of 90, actually made the traces of life and emotion feel even more profound.
This experience inspired the foundation’s very first project. Under the slogan “There is no handwriting in the world that is not beautiful,” the foundation presented the “Go-Ham Bad Handwriting Contest” and the exhibition
The contest received a total of 7,307 entries over two weeks. Lyricist Kim Eana and calligraphy artist Gong Byeong-gak served as judges, selecting 26 winning works. These pieces will be exhibited for free at Studio Go-Ham in Jongno-gu, Seoul, for approximately two months.
Kim Jin-pyo stated, “As a foundation that supports writing, we will continue our activities to support creators and spread the culture of recording.”
