Get ready! JTBC’s new Saturday-Sunday drama ‘New Employee Chairman Kang’ premieres on May 30. The story follows Kang Yong-ho, the legendary “God of Business” and chairman of the massive Choi Sung Group, who unexpectedly starts a second life after an accident.
Lee Jun-young takes on the role of Hwang Jun-hyun, a rising soccer star whose body becomes the vessel for Kang Yong-ho’s (Son Hyun-joo) soul. This means Lee Jun-young will be pulling double duty, portraying two completely different personalities!
Lee Jun-young revealed that the soul-swap premise was what drew him to the project. “The idea of expressing both Hwang Jun-hyun and Kang Yong-ho in one work felt like a very attractive challenge as an actor,” he shared. He added that he didn’t hesitate to join because the script itself was so entertaining.
He teased the contrasting charms of his character, explaining, “Hwang Jun-hyun is a soccer player with bright, healthy energy who lives more diligently than anyone to achieve his dreams. On the other hand, when Chairman Kang Yong-ho’s soul enters, the exterior remains the same, but the inner pressure and charisma are on a whole different level.”
Since the souls swap during the story, Lee Jun-young dove deep into analyzing Chairman Kang’s traits. “I wanted there to be a clear distinction between soccer player Hwang Jun-hyun and the version of him possessed by Kang Yong-ho,” he said, noting that he put a lot of thought into the Chairman’s unique way of speaking and emotional delivery.
To perfectly sync with Son Hyun-joo’s portrayal of Kang Yong-ho, Lee Jun-young shared, “I paid close attention to senior Son Hyun-joo’s usual way of speaking and behaving to express it naturally.” He even mentioned that he watched a huge amount of the veteran actor’s previous works.
As for the highlights of the show, Lee Jun-young pointed to the diverse emotional range. “This work will bring waves of various emotions, from heavy themes to nail-biting tension,” he said. “I think the biggest thrill will be the unexpected situations Kang Yong-ho faces after joining Choi Sung Group in Hwang Jun-hyun’s body. I hope viewers enjoy it like they’re surfing these wonderful waves we’ve created.”
