Move over “Gungsang-min,” because Producer Lee Sang-min is back! He is putting his keen eye to work to discover the next generation of idol gems.
In a video released on May 13 via the YouTube channel ‘232 Project’, Lee Sang-min held on-site auditions for trainees. This documentary-style content follows Lee Sang-min, once a prolific producer, as he aims for a comeback by nurturing a new group after a long hiatus and finally paying off his debts.
Lee Sang-min focused on finding talented individuals dreaming of becoming the next big stars. Drawing on his extensive experience as a producer, he sharply analyzed the applicants’ skills and looked for sincerity by asking the fundamental reasons why they wanted to enter the entertainment industry.
He showed interest in the impressive jumping ability of the first male applicant, Shin Seung-kwon, and explored his musical style by asking about his favorite musicians. He also displayed his sharp producer instincts by spotting the hidden innocence of Song Ji-woo, whose stage persona differs greatly from their usual self.
Lee Sang-min seemed particularly satisfied with Kim Min-jung’s performance, testing her versatility by requesting dances other than hip-hop or pop. He even brought laughter to the set with his “forehead audition,” insisting that everyone lift their bangs to check the balance of their facial features.
Lee Sang-min hinted at even fiercer competition ahead, as 10 candidates have advanced to the second round of face-to-face evaluations. When asked about the specific requirements for passing, he sparked curiosity about what is next with a confident answer: “As long as it fits my intuition.”
Meanwhile, ‘232 Project’ has completed preparations for recording two new songs and is putting all its effort into selecting the members who best fit the vibe of the tracks.
