The Ministry of Justice announced on the 13th that a Chinese national in his 40s, identified as A, was extradited from Thailand on the 12th. A is the mastermind of an overseas hacking organization that stole personal information from individuals, including Jungkook and various chaebol heads, and embezzled over 38 billion won from financial and virtual asset accounts.
A organized a hacking criminal group in Thailand and other locations. From August 2023 to April this year, the group infiltrated websites to steal personal information, which they used to open budget phone lines to bypass account authentication and withdraw funds.
In the process, it was revealed that shortly after his enlistment, Jungkook’s securities account identity was stolen, and the group almost managed to steal HYBE shares worth approximately 8.4 billion won.
Fortunately, his agency quickly noticed the activity and took immediate action, such as suspending payments, preventing any actual financial loss.
Investigative authorities have been tracking the organization through cooperation with Interpol. Following the extradition and trial of one high-ranking member last August, this additional accomplice has now been brought back to Korea.
