The movie ‘Colony’ made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, earning a stunning 6-minute standing ovation.
The red carpet and official screening for ‘Colony,’ invited to the Midnight Screening section, took place at the Lumière Grand Theatre in the Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France, at midnight on the 15th (local time).
‘Colony’ is a film about isolated survivors in a building locked down due to a mysterious infection, fighting against infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways.
Actors Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin, Kim Shin-rok, and Director Yeon Sang-ho all attended the red carpet and official screening event.
Cheers erupted as the actors entered the theater, and they looked deeply moved by the enthusiastic welcome and applause from the audience. Jun Ji-hyun, in particular, gestured that she was crying to Director Yeon Sang-ho beside her, appearing visibly emotional.
As soon as the credits rolled after the 122-minute screening, applause broke out, leading to a standing ovation that lasted for about 6 minutes.

Director Yeon Sang-ho, a “Cannes regular” who has been invited four times starting with his first feature animation ‘The King of Pigs’ (2012, Director’s Fortnight), followed by ‘Train to Busan’ (2016, Midnight Screening), and ‘Peninsula’ (2020, Official Selection), shared his emotional thoughts: “It is a huge honor to be able to present ‘Colony’ again at the dream-like Cannes Film Festival. The passionate support will be a memory I’ll cherish for a very long time in my filmmaking career.”
‘Colony,’ unveiled for the first time, captured attention by showcasing evolved zombies from the “Father of K-Zombies,” Yeon Sang-ho. The film keeps the audience gripped with a tense story and a clear message.
With ‘Colony’ set for a domestic release in Korea on the 21st, shortly after its Cannes premiere, anticipation is high regarding how many viewers it will attract in Korea.
