“Music is Science and K-pop’s Rival is Baseball!” HYBE’s Podcast ‘Music’s Interference’ Reinterprets Music

HYBE’s podcast channel STAN:A will welcome Hanwha Eagles cheerleading captain Hong Chang-hwa and baseball YouTuber and author Razel in its third episode. Episodes 2 and 3 are set to be released on the 8th and 22nd at 6 PM, respectively.

‘Music’s Interference’ is a commentary podcast that explores music through conversations with guests from various fields. The show is hosted by the father-daughter duo: producer Hitchhiker and singer-songwriter Jin Choi.

According to HYBE Media Studio, episode 2 features science communicator Gwedo, who brings a fresh perspective by suggesting that “music is also science.” The episode dives into how our brains and bodies react to music and answers everyday curiosities, such as the impact of “labor songs” or those infamous “CSAT-forbidden songs” (earworms). They will also highlight the intersection of music and science through K-pop examples with scientific themes in their lyrics, such as Younha’s ‘Event Horizon’ and SHINee’s ‘Hitchhiking’.

In episode 3, Hanwha Eagles cheerleading captain Hong Chang-hwa and baseball YouTuber and author Razel will dive into the topic “K-pop’s rival is baseball.” They will explore how the “sing-along” (ttechang) culture, once seen as exclusive to concerts, connects with baseball stadium cheering culture. The episode will also interestingly unpack the intersection of music and baseball by looking at how K-pop is being reimagined and utilized as baseball cheering songs.

HYBE Media Studio stated, “Music’s Interference continues its attempt to view music from a variety of perspectives through representatives of different fields.” They added, “Since music is a culture that permeates every part of our lives rather than being limited to a specific industry, we hope subscribers enjoy the diverse viewpoints surrounding music.”
