Nayul shared her deep resentment toward her father on ‘Special World’.
Nayul, known for ‘Miss Trot 3’, appeared on the MBN show ‘Special World’ on the 14th.
When her mother mentioned her father, Nayul’s expression hardened. Despite her mother’s cautious suggestion to reach out, Nayul coldly replied, “This has nothing to do with you. If I do it, I’ll be the one doing it, so why bring this up first thing in the morning?”
Even with a busy schedule of events, Nayul has been working part-time. She shared, “I’m working part-time at a convenience store and other places. The boss here is so kind to me.”
Back at home, her mother brought up the father again. Nayul asked, “Don’t you hate him for abandoning the two of us?” but her mother lamented, “Still, isn’t it a bond of blood?”
Explaining the separation, her mother revealed, “His business was very large. But when the IMF crisis hit, he suddenly became buried in an uncontrollable amount of debt. I felt that divorce was the only option.”
Since the divorce happened when Nayul was around one year old, she grew up without even knowing her father existed. Nayul confessed, “I first found out after finishing first grade. I realized, ‘I’m a child without a father.’ At the time, my mom told me he had gone on a business trip to China to earn money, but as I grew up, I realized that wasn’t true. When I asked for the truth in fourth grade, she finally told me, and I cried my eyes out.”

However, after about 30 years, her father reached out through relatives. Nayul confessed, “I heard he asked to see me once after seeing me, my mom, and my grandmother on TV. Hearing that actually made my anger grow. I wondered why I had to be punished and endure this my whole life just because of my parents’ choices, while others have normal, happy families.”
Having learned Gyeonggi Minyo since age 8 at her mother’s suggestion, Nayul entered arts middle and high school at the top of her class and consistently ranked first. Nayul explained, “My mom had to support us, so I think she sent me to the traditional music academy to raise me properly.” She added, “I pushed myself hard, thinking, ‘If I don’t do this, I’ll be a disobedient daughter.’ It’s simple. I did it because my mom liked it. That’s the only reason. That’s why I worked like a powerhouse.”
Seeing her mother care for her sick uncle and grandmother only fueled Nayul’s anger. Nayul stated, “That man abandoned his family and vanished. I hated him. I loathed him. I thought of him as the culprit who made things this way.”
Nayul eventually shared her worries with Kim Dong-jun, someone she relies on like a father. She said, “I’ve never seen my father, but he contacted me after 30 years. Honestly, I hated him. I wondered why he abandoned me. I’m curious about his perspective.” Kim Dong-jun advised, “There’s no harm in meeting him. It might not be amazing, but you’ve got nothing to lose. You should see what kind of person your father was. You don’t need to live your whole life without ever seeing his face. Don’t overthink it.”
After making a big decision, Nayul finally called her father. She burst into tears as soon as she heard his voice. Facing her father after 30 years, he confessed, “I relied on alcohol and was incompetent. I thought I should go to Seoul to get back on my feet, and as time passed, it became a divorce in all but name. I missed you so much.”
