Singer Na Yul reunited with her estranged father after about 20 years on the show “Special World.”
In the MBN variety program “Special World” aired on the 14th, the show highlighted the challenging life of Na Yul, who became well-known through “Miss Trot 3” after a long period of obscurity.
During the episode, Na Yul looked back on her past, recalling the times she failed numerous auditions. She shared how she fought hard to make a name for herself, even winning eight awards at various music festivals. Even now, she balances performing with part-time jobs, pushing herself to the limit to support her mother.
There was a heartbreaking reason behind her fierce determination. During elementary school, her father’s business went bankrupt, leaving the family in massive debt. After her father left, she grew up in a single-parent household. Because her mother struggled to make ends meet, Na Yul was sent to a traditional music academy, where she practiced tirelessly to make her mother proud.
She confessed that she had lived with deep hatred for her father for a long time. “I thought he was the culprit who abandoned the family and vanished, leaving us in a desperate situation,” she revealed. “I resented why I had to bear such a burden while others had normal, happy families.”
Recently, her father contacted her after about 20 years, expressing a desire to meet. However, Na Yul felt more anger than longing, as she felt a strong sense of rejection knowing he only reached out after seeing her appear on television.
Despite her reluctance, Na Yul opened her heart after receiving sincere advice from those around her, who told her to meet him while he is still around so she wouldn’t have regrets.
After finally getting in touch, Na Yul poured out her resentment, saying, “I don’t even know your face and have no memories of you.” Her father responded with apology and longing, saying, “I don’t even deserve to be called ‘Dad,’ and I am only filled with regret. Still, I really wanted to see your face.” Na Yul, who usually suppresses her emotions, eventually burst into tears.
During their reunion after 28 years, Na Yul shared her complex emotions. “I was afraid I would only see him after he passed away, and my hatred made me not want to see him,” she said. Her father apologized, saying, “I wanted to see you so much, but I couldn’t approach you. I’ve seen you too late.” After looking into her father’s eyes, Na Yul shared, “I came to understand that I wasn’t just abandoned, but that the situation made it happen.”
At the end of the broadcast, Na Yul revealed that she had let go of her resentment and found a positive driving force for her life. “I want to live with hope now that I know I can see him,” she vowed, promising to stay in touch and leaving viewers deeply moved.
