Entertainer Noh Hong-chul recently opened up about the advice he received from Yoo Jae-suk, his former castmate on the MBC variety show ‘Infinite Challenge’.
On May 16, a video titled “Noh Hong-chul Surprised by Today’s Youth’s Realistic Monthly Rent Life” was uploaded to the ‘Noh Hong-chul’ channel, where he spoke about Yoo Jae-suk.
While visiting the new home of a PD he works with, Noh Hong-chul reflected on the importance of the people you meet. He noted, “Parents always tell you to meet the right friends when you’re young. Who you meet completely changes your social life, and I remember it being the same for my broadcasting career.”
He revealed that at one point, he wanted to quit the industry. “I told them I should just stop, but then Jae-suk hyung, who I was working with at the time, told me not to quit. I told him I wasn’t doing it because I had talent,” he recalled.
Noh Hong-chul explained, “I felt I was just born as a unique person with a lot of different experiences, so I just talked about those on talk shows. But since I was in my 20s, I felt like my stories and episodes weren’t endless. I thought I’d used them all up and wanted to quit, but Jae-suk hyung said, ‘From my perspective, I think you have talent.'”
He added, “He told me that even if I didn’t think so, the synergy created by the people I meet could make that shine like a skill. I kept insisting I didn’t have any, but eventually, I told myself, ‘Let’s do it for one more month,’ and then ‘Let’s just do it for one more year.’ That’s how I’ve ended up doing this for over 20 years!”
Noh Hong-chul shared his philosophy on life, saying, “I always think the world is fair. What one person lacks, another has. Even if people who lack something team up, they can create something bigger. I might have missed out on things like Hyundai Apartments—I actually caught them and lost them twice! But instead of just lamenting those losses, if you find other joys and live excitedly, opportunities come from unexpected places. That’s why I can’t speak too carelessly.”
