Park Hae-soo Addresses Trending

Actor Park Hae-soo shared his deep trust and special acting chemistry with Lee Hee-joon.

During an interview on the 18th at the BH Entertainment office in Gangnam, Seoul, Park Hae-soo discussed various aspects of the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Heosuabi’.

‘Heosuabi’ follows a detective chasing a serial killer who forms an unexpected partnership with the person he hates most. The series received praise for depicting the truth-seeking journey of two men amidst 30 years of ill fate and hatred from 1988 to 2019.

Playing the role of Kang Tae-joo, Park Hae-soo revealed that he had many conversations with Lee Hee-joon to connect the 2019 version of Tae-joo with his past self.

He shared, “I kept imagining the time of a person who lived with a sense of loss for 30 years,” adding, “I talked a lot about the characters with Lee Hee-joon.”

He further explained, “Rather than seeing him as a lonely person, I thought of him as someone who grew healthier and matured as he aged.”

This project marks the third time the two have worked together. Park Hae-soo confessed, “I acted with the most passion in this work. I was struggling a lot with my acting at the time, but I grew and broke through many barriers while working with Lee Hee-joon.”

He jokingly mentioned, “Actually, my agency CEO told me that since this is our third project, we shouldn’t meet again. But if this project does well, maybe there will be another opportunity to work together,” expressing his hope.

On set, they even used improvisation to build the character’s past narrative. Park Hae-soo noted, “We completed the scenes by exchanging ideas on the spot,” highlighting their deep immersion.

The line “I’ll keep you by my side,” which became a hot topic among some viewers as a BL (Boys’ Love) moment, was highlighted as a scene where the intense chemistry between the two actors shone. Park Hae-soo explained the scene, saying, “Rather than feelings of love, it felt like being pulled back like a nightmare.”

He added with admiration, “Lee Hee-joon acted as if he were pulling out childhood memories in that scene, and it truly gave me goosebumps.”

He also mentioned that Lee Hee-joon’s advice, “Let’s not pretend,” was particularly memorable. Park Hae-soo said, “Instead of trying hard to act like a wounded detective, I wanted to look like someone who actually lived through that era. I learned a lot about that while acting with Lee Hee-joon.”

He shared his sincere reflections as an actor, stating, “Ultimately, I felt that acting is a story about people.”

Finally, he expressed his affection for the character Kang Tae-joo. Park Hae-soo said, “If I meet Kang Tae-joo again after I’ve become more of an adult, I really want to give him a hug.”

He concluded by expressing his sadness at letting the character go, saying, “There must have been lonely moments, but I think he lived through those times calmly.”
