Park Ji-hyun Opens Up About Failing 100+ Auditions During Her Struggle as an Unknown Actress on 'You Quiz on the Block'

The 345th episode of tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’ (directed by Heo Kang-seok and Kim Ji-young, written by Lee Eun-ju), airing May 27 at 8:45 PM, features a diverse lineup: pharmacists Cha Seung-hyun and Park Geun-mi from one of Korea’s largest hospital pharmacies, teacher Ji Han-gu who boosted his students’ confidence through fitness, the trending Lee Jun who has taken over the algorithms, and the versatile actor Park Ji-hyun.

The intense daily life of a massive hospital pharmacy will be revealed. The pharmacy team at Seoul Asan Medical Center, where 180 pharmacists handle about 150,000 prescriptions daily, will showcase their 24/7 operations and a pharmacy room storing anticancer drugs worth 3 billion won. Specifically, 23-year veteran pediatric pharmacist Park Geun-mi and 4th-year pharmacist Cha Seung-hyun will share the realities of the pharmaceutical industry. They’ll highlight the extreme precision needed to dispense adult medication at 1/100th the dose for premature babies under 500g, as well as the shortage of essential neonatal medicines. Viewers can also see the operation of the miracle anticancer drug ‘Kymriah’ (worth 400 million won) and a high-tech facility with six anticancer injection robots worth 1 billion won.

Teacher Ji Han-gu from Daegu Yeongnam Technical High School, who helped students gain confidence through fitness, also shares his story. After becoming a viral sensation on ‘Human Theater’ alongside his fit students, Ji Han-gu introduces himself as a “Korean language teacher, not a fitness teacher” and reveals why he started a fitness club at school. From starting with bodyweight exercises in an empty classroom to growing into a popular club with a 5:1 competition rate, the episode will show the amazing transformations of students, including one who lost 36kg in two months. He’ll also discuss his own efforts in competing in bodybuilding competitions in his 40s to lead by example, his journey to becoming a teacher after three attempts, and his sincere educational philosophy. Heartwarming stories about his father, a painter, and a student who found a new dream after overcoming school violence are also expected to move viewers.

We’ll also meet actor Lee Jun, known as “the hardest working man in Korea right now.” Having surged in popularity across weekend variety shows and SNS Shorts algorithms, Lee Jun reveals the behind-the-scenes story of his bold transformation into a “triceps cheerleader” on YouTube, performing Choi Ye-na’s ‘Catch Catch’. He’ll share the stories that sparked the reaction “Even Lee Jun lives this hard,” and how he mastered the choreography for 40 cheering songs in just two days. His ‘Catch Catch’ dance and the ILLIT ‘It’s Me’ challenge dance, which impressed Yoo Jae-suk, will be revealed for the first time on ‘You Quiz’. Additionally, he’ll honestly address the ‘currency value’ controversy that sparked conversation.

Lee Jun’s special life story, embodying “passion,” will be touching. He’ll talk about his childhood starting part-time jobs in elementary school due to financial hardships from the IMF crisis, entering a dance department through a “Spartan” method while dreaming of becoming an actor, and spending most of his school days in the practice room to avoid the cockroaches in his home. He’ll share how he overcame adversity with “Lee Jun-style thinking” to achieve his goal of living in a clean house, his debut in the group MBLAQ under Rain’s agency, and his growth as an actor. His unique acting philosophy of “absolute reality” will also be discussed.

Actor Park Ji-hyun, who has proven her popularity with a packed lineup of upcoming projects, also shares her story. Returning in the movie ‘Wild Thing’, she reveals the behind-the-scenes of her transformation into the center of ‘Triangle’, a mixed-gender idol group with a late-90s vibe. She’ll share how she studied the character based on Fin.K.L’s Lee Hyori. The episode will also feature the shocking practice behind-the-scenes where she worked with Gang Dong-won and Um Tae-gu, and the first reveal of her solo stage for ‘Love is’. Viewers can expect to see the reversal of introverted actors transforming into camera-eating performers and Park Ji-hyun’s active role as a “human photocopier.”

Now a 10-year veteran, Park Ji-hyun continues her story. She’ll talk about her childhood love for role-playing, her school days where she scored 900 on the TOEIC, and how she began pursuing her acting dreams after entering the Spanish Department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. She’ll open up about her days as an unknown actress, failing over 100 auditions, and her growth story through works like ‘Reborn Rich’, ‘Hidden Face’, and ‘Eunjung and Sangyeon’. In particular, she’ll share the touching story of consulting her father, a doctor who fought cancer, to portray a terminal cancer patient in ‘Eunjung and Sangyeon’, along with previously unheard family stories. Her special affection for Kim Go-eun and her dreams for 10 years from now will reveal the unexpected charms of the human Park Ji-hyun.
