Singer and actor Rain opened up about his endless love for exercise and the hilarious behind-the-scenes story of how his “shirtless formula” was born.
On the May 11 broadcast of SBS ‘Ani Geunde Jinjja!’, Rain appeared as a guest and shared some honest stories.
Rain started by mentioning his connection with Kai, praising him by saying, “We go to the same gym, and he’s one of the friends with the most beautiful physique I’ve ever seen.”
In response, Kai shook his head at Rain’s passion for working out. He revealed, “When I think of people who are truly crazy about exercise, it’s Kim Jong-kook hyung and Rain hyung.” He added, “Once on a holiday, I went to the gym thinking, ‘Is there anyone else as crazy about exercise as I am?’ but Rain hyung was already there running alone,” which sparked laughter.
Rain admitted it, stating, “I try not to rest if possible. I work out as naturally as I eat,” while revealing his strict self-management routine.
But it didn’t stop there. Rain shocked everyone by saying, “When I enter the gym and all the lights are off, I feel like all the equipment there is like my girlfriend.” He added, “If I see a piece of equipment I’ve never seen before, I’ll ask, ‘Where did you come from?’ and even search for it online.” Hearing this, Kai immediately drew a line, saying, “Hyung, that’s a sickness. I don’t think like that,” causing an explosion of laughter.
The conversation then shifted to his shirtless performances. Rain noted, “Taking off my clothes during a performance was actually something from a long time ago,” but explained that things changed after appearing in Psy’s ‘Summer Swag’.
He recalled, “Psy hyung had already told the audience, ‘Jihoon is going to take off his clothes.’ At first, I only planned to take it off a little, but the audience loved it so much that I ended up taking it all off for the ‘Rainism’ stage.”
He added, “Since then, a formula was created that ‘Rain takes off his clothes when he appears.’ People expect me to strip when I hit the stage.” He jokingly confessed, “Even my fans don’t come to see my performance, they come to see ‘Summer Swag’.”
Kai analyzed the situation realistically, saying, “The reason hyung takes it off is because his body is great. If he stopped working out, his confidence would drop and he wouldn’t take it off.” Tak Jae-hoon then joked, “You’ve taken off your shirt too much, so now take off your pants,” to which Rain replied, “I’ve actually thought about it,” leaving the set in chaos.
Kai once again pointed out, “Hyung, that’s a sickness,” and Rain quickly clarified, “It’s because I believe I have to give my best on stage,” ending the conversation on a lighthearted note.
