Robert Downey Jr. Slams Idea of Influencers Being Future Stars, Calling It

Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jr. has spoken out against the idea of social media influencers being labeled as the “stars of the future.”

According to the U.S. entertainment outlet Variety on May 6 (local time), Robert Downey Jr. appeared on the podcast “Conversations for Daughters,” where he delivered a direct blow to the claim that influencers will become the main players in the entertainment industry, calling it “complete nonsense.”

He pointed out that these days, people can achieve fame simply by pointing a phone camera at themselves without any other significant activity.

While he doesn’t view this entirely negatively, he emphasized his hope that the younger generation in the U.S. doesn’t limit themselves to simple self-display influencer activities. He even shared a personal story about his 14-year-old son falling into the influencer culture of soliciting donations during game streams, expressing concern that it is “becoming like a religion.”

Robert Downey Jr. also shared his personal conviction, stating that he does not want to be “consumed” by social media.

Having led the peak of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. is widely loved in Korea. He is set to make a comeback as the new villain, Doctor Doom, in “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is scheduled for release on December 18 this year.
