Singer Roy Kim is bringing a fresh perspective to legendary tracks by senior artists such as Jaurim, Lee Seung-hwan, and Kim Hyun-chul.
Roy Kim will release his remake album, “Bloom Again,” on the 20th at 6 PM. The album features six iconic songs that represent their eras, including “No Encore,” “Twenty-five, Twenty-one,” “Smile Boy,” “Why Are You Like That,” “Heart for One Person,” and “Song of the Wind.”
Ahead of the release, Roy Kim shared the story behind the project. “Since my debut, fans have been waiting for a remake album, and it was a challenge I always wanted to take on,” he revealed. He added, “I believed that for a remake to be loved by the public, it needs the singer’s own unique color. Rather than simply singing the songs again, I spent a long time thinking about how my own color could harmonize with the original versions.”
He expressed his musical confidence and sincerity, stating, “I started preparing carefully because I felt that the color of the singer ‘Roy Kim’ has now become a bit more distinct.”
However, Roy Kim emphasized that reimagining such famous songs with his own sensibility wasn’t easy. “The hardest part was finding the answer to whether people would enjoy Roy Kim’s sensibility without it feeling out of place, while still preserving the atmosphere of the original songs,” he explained. “I tried to pour all those thoughts into the arrangement and vocals. I’m excited and curious to see how the public will receive them.”
Through this process, Roy Kim shared that he gained significant musical growth. “While analyzing the melodies and lyrics one by one for the arrangement, I realized once again that a masterpiece is truly a masterpiece,” he said. “I deeply learned about the points that shouldn’t be missed when writing a song and how to express emotions. It wasn’t an easy task, but I feel I’ve grown as a musician.”
Roy Kim also expressed his deep respect for the original artists. “While I feel relieved to have finished a project I’ve pondered for so long, I also feel a great sense of responsibility not to let down my senior artists,” he confessed. “I promised to do my best and repay them with a great result, and I hope that promise is delivered without any embarrassment.”
Finally, Roy Kim took a cautious stance regarding the future, saying, “I definitely have the desire to continue this remake project as a series, but for now, I want to focus on this album. I want to leave the next series as another challenge for my future self.”
