Shin Dong-yup Bows to Han Young-ae, His Benefactor from 40 Years Ago: “I’ll Never Forget It”

Shin Dong-yup is set to reunite with Han Young-ae, his “benefactor from 40 years ago.”

The May 16th episode of KBS 2TV’s ‘Immortal Songs’ will be the “Artist Han Young-ae Edition,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of the “Witch of Sound,” Han Young-ae. To honor her unique musical world, top vocalists including Sohyang, Jung In, Jung Dong-ha, Go Hoon-jung X Lee Chang-yong, Seodo Band, and Do Won-kyung will take the stage, raising expectations.

During the show, MC Shin Dong-yup surprises everyone by telling Han Young-ae, “I owe you a great debt,” revealing an unexpected connection from 40 years ago. Shin Dong-yup shared, “Back when I was in my high school broadcasting club, I went to recruit Jeon In-kwon for a festival. Han Young-ae, who was with him at the time, stepped forward and said, ‘I’ll do it too.’ She performed at a high school festival for free. I’ve never forgotten this kindness for the rest of my life.” He expressed his gratitude by bowing deeply to Han Young-ae, drawing loud applause from the crowd.

Han Young-ae responded with a warm smile, saying, “I remember that time too.” She jokingly added, “I still want to go to high school festivals and sing, but they don’t invite me anymore.” In a playful moment, Shin Dong-yup joked, “I think even the principal might find that a bit difficult,” making Han Young-ae burst into laughter. However, he soon returned to a serious tone, adding, “It was the autumn of 1987 when I was a sophomore in high school. I want to thank you once again through this occasion,” leaving a touching impression.
